Andy Procter aims for improved Stanley

Andy Procter
Procter has made 313 appearances since joining Accrington in 2002

Accrington captain Andy Procter says he hopes the League Two club will be able to strengthen after they missed out on reaching the play-off final.

Every member of the current side [apart from Ian Craney] is out of contract and Procter believes adding to the squad is essential.

Procter told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I hope the boss [John Coleman] can keep the majority of this squad together.

"If we can add to it then maybe we can have a good go next year."

Accrington recorded a commendable fifth placed finish, despite ownership issues and limited finance threatening to derail their campaign.

And, even though they lost their two-legged semi-final to Stevenage, Procter believes the club is still going in the right direction.

"The future is looking a lot brighter," he said. "The club's on a much better financial footing so providing the manager can keep the majority of this squad together I'll be happy to sign again.

"It was well documented that we were favourites to go down at the start of the season.

"Credit to the gaffer and Jimmy [Bell - assistant manager] because they assembled a really competitive squad this year - it's the best in my nine years at the club.

"It is a real achievement for us to finish fifth and once we reached the play-offs I did fancy our chances. We feel like we let ourselves down, but we've got to make sure going into next year we don't have a hangover from missing out on promotion," he concluded.
