Accrington have completed the signing of Burnley's Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender Kevin Long on an initial one-month loan.

The 20-year-old joined the Clarets in January from League of Ireland side Cork City for a six-figure fee.

Stanley boss John Coleman told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He's a good player and we've shown a few cracks developing lately in defence.

"He's got a good pedigree and a good grounding at Burnley."

The centre-back was signed by former Clarets boss Owen Coyle but has still to feature in the first team.

"He's not coming here as a fresh-faced kid as he's been over here for a while," said Coleman.

"It'll be a different style of football to what he's used to, playing in League Two, but hopefully he'll cope and adapt to it."

Long could be in line to make his debut against Rotherham on Saturday.

Burnley manager Brian Laws believes Long will benefit from working under Coleman.

"He knows players and hopefully he'll bring out the best in Kevin. It's a physical division but they also play good football," he said.

"It's another good opportunity, it's on our doorstep and we can monitor his development."
