Stanley boss laments focus lapse

John Coleman
Coleman has guided Accrington to 14th in League Two

Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman says he is concerned by the number of times his side have conceded goals in the closing stages of their games.

Grimsby's late equaliser in the draw with Accrington on Friday was the 10th time Stanley have conceded in the final 10 minutes of a match this season.

"I can't remember a season were we've conceded so many late goals," Coleman told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It's not down to fitness because we're probably the fittest in the league."

Accrington are enjoying their best season since returning to the Football League having won six of their opening 15 league games.

But Coleman is more determined than ever to eradicate defensive errors if they are to stand any chance of reaching the League Two play-offs.

"We're a third of the way through the season and we've possibly cost ourselves five or six points in the last 10 seconds of games," he said.

"Whichever league you're in if you're leading with seconds remaining and you don't win you're going to be disappointed.

"The players have got great character but we can't put it down to what's been going on off the pitch recently."
