Accrington Stanley have signed Charlton's Portuguese central defender Paulo Monteiro on a month's loan.
Stanley manager John Coleman felt he needed to boost his defensive options after three straight defeats.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "He has come in on a month's loan, will slot in and hopefully do a good job for us."
Monteiro, 23, only joined the Addicks as a free agent at the start of this month after being released by Romanian outfit Farul Constanta.
Monteiro could make his Stanley debut against Brentford in League Two on Tuesday, subject to international clearance.
Accrington currently have the poorest goal difference in the division and have kept only five clean sheets this season.
As the games run out we have to make sure that we have enough wins on the board to keep us where we want to be
Stanley boss John Coleman
Coleman hinted Monteiro may not be the only arrival at The Fraser Eagle Stadium, following Phil Doughty's return to Blackpool last week after a loan spell.
"We're still looking for an experienced centre-half, and we're still hoping that one or two of our centre-halves will come good," added Coleman.
"But as the games run out we have to make sure that we have enough wins on the board to keep us where we want to be."
Accrington are currently eight points above the relegation zone.
They face Brentford on Tuesday (kick-off 1945GMT) and regular updates will be available on BBC Radio Lancashire - 95.5, 103.9 & 104.5 FM, 855 & 1557 AM and DAB Digital Radio.
