Aberdeen only looking up, says Craig Brown

Manager Craig Brown was refusing to get carried away after Aberdeen recorded their highest win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock.

"It was a pleasing result, particularly after the midweek disappointment against Motherwell," said Brown.

"If we get the points on Tuesday (against Hamilton) then I'll say that we are safe but I've never said we were in relegation danger.

"The top six is a remote possibility but it's a target we have to aim for."

Scott Vernon and Sone Aluko gave Aberdeen a two-goal half-time lead before a Chris Maguire penalty, a Rory McArdle tap-in and a strike from substitute Josh Magennis completed the scoring.

The impressive win leaves the Dons seven points behind sixth-placed Inverness with a game in hand.

"We were fortunate to get five goals," admitted Brown. "We're not getting carried away.

"We had five different scorers, which is really good, and from our 18-man squad list nine of them are under 21 and that's very pleasing.

"We were short of eight possible first-team players on Tuesday and we got three back today, so we were much stronger.

"Kilmarnock play very good football but there were spells when we played exceptionally well.

"We kept the ball and we closed them down. They like time in possession and we didn't allow that."
