Sone Aluko celebrates his goal against St Johnstone

Aberdeen forward Sone Aluko faces a spell on the sidelines with a stomach injury picked up against St Johnstone.

Aluko will have a scan after being forced off at half-time in Saturday's 2-1 win in the Scottish Premier League.

Dons manager Mark McGhee said: "Sone has a stomach strain, which we don't know exactly yet the level of.

"Certainly, he won't be training for a couple of weeks. I'd imagine he'd miss the Motherwell game. I've no idea beyond that."

That 21 November trip to Fir Park comes after the international break.

"It needs to be scanned and it needs to settle down a bit," said McGhee of Aluko's prospects.

If he's now going to be out the team, it's a setback for us all

Aluko scored a stunning solo goal against Saints before going off.

"He started to look the part again," said the manager. "His goal was absolutely fantastic.

"If he's now going to be out the team, it's a setback for us all."

There was better news on fellow youngster Peter Pawlett, who it was also feared had picked up another injury.

"Peter's fine; Peter trained this morning; he really just cramped up," added McGhee. "He hadn't been training much."
