Smith signs deal with MLS outfit

Aberdeen midfielder Jamie Smith
Smith leaves Aberdeen after an injury-hit four years at Pittodrie

Jamie Smith has sealed a move to Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids after being released by Aberdeen.

The 28-year-old winger had been at Pittodrie for four years, but talks over a new deal stalled in the summer.

He has signed a two-year deal with the MLS club and Rapids manager Gary Smith is delighted with his new signing.

"I think we are looking to the future with Jamie Smith. He is versatile enough to play on both flanks as well as an attacking midfielder," he said.

Smith's time at Pittordrie was disrupted by injury following his move from Dutch side Den Haag. He also enjoyed spells at Celtic and Livingston.

He is expected to make his debut against Columbus Crew on Saturday.
