Aberdeen have taken 28-year-old former Feyenoord defender Pieter Collen on a week's trial.

The Belgian can play at right-back or centre-back and has Champions League experience with the Rotterdam club.

Collen will be available for free when his contract at Dutch Second Division club SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden expires.

"Everything is going smoothly. It's a good group and they are all nice to me, at the moment," Collen told Aberdeen's RedTV channel.

The Belgian is currently on a three-month deal at SC Cambuur-Leeurwarden, where he plays alongside former Dons winger Jeffrey de Visscher and former Hearts striker Mark de Vries.

"Aberdeen's stadium looks like, when there's a crowd, it could be a really good atmosphere," added Collen.

"That's the most important thing in football because it gives you a good boost.

"I know football in Scotland and England and the way they play is a little bit harder and quicker but I like it like that.

"From the training sessions here I like the way we're playing."
