Dons trialist returns to Bulgaria

CSKA Sofia defender Quido Lanzaat has returned to Bulgaria after finishing his trial with Aberdeen.

However, the 28-year-old Dutchman may yet win a move to Pittodrie before the close of the transfer window.

Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood told the club website: "The player has not done himself any harm.

"He improved every day in training. It was good he got to see the game on Saturday to get a feel for football in this country."

The Dutchman came through the Ajax academy and was capped by his country at youth and under-21 level.

He moved to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2000 and, two years later, joined Alemannia Aachen before spells with 1860 Munchen and MSV Duisburg.

It was while with Borussia that he was banned from football for three months after failing a drugs test.

A lot of people make mistakes when they are young and I'm sure he learned from it. He has a good pedigree

Lanzaat has only spent a year in Bulgaria after joining from Duisburg and Aberdeen and CSKA Sofia have already agreed a temporary transfer, initially until January.

"He is available because of problems he has had in Sofia," Calderwood told BBC Sport.

"A lot of people make mistakes when they are young and I'm sure he learned from it. He has a good pedigree.

"You don't play in the Bundesliga for eight years if you can't play."

Meanwhile, Calderwood is assessing other transfer targets and hopes to conclude deals before Saturday's Scottish Premier League match away to St Mirren.
