Wright completes Pittodrie move

Aberdeen have completed the signing of striker Tommy Wright from Darlington.

The 23-year-old has penned a three-year-deal with the Scottish Premier League club.

Wright's move was delayed as he was recovering from a knee injury and he is unlikely to feature in Saturday's SPL opener against Inverness.

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood told his club website: "He is a great lad and also a very talented footballer. He is strong and gives an added dimension."

Calderwood thought that Englishman Wright, for whom a £100,000 fee had already been agreed with Darlington, could form a partnership with Lee Miller up front.

Wright, who scored 15 goals last season, passed a medical at Pittodrie on Thursday.

And he is most likely to feature first for the reserves in midweek.

"Tommy will bring a lot of strength to the team as he is a big lad," said Calderwood.

"He is a good holder of the ball and is very strong in the air. He has everything in him to become a big favourite with the fans."

Wright began his career with hometown club Leicester City and had loan spells with Brentford and Blackpool.

He then had a season with Barnsley, including a loan to Walsall, before spending 18 months with Darlington in League Two, scoring 17 goals in 54 appearances.
