Aberdeen have admitted defeat in their attempts to persuade Yeovil target Gary Dempsey to remain at Pittodrie beyond the end of his contract in the summer.
Gary Dempsey has been in and out of the Aberdeen team
The 26-year-old Irish midfielder looks poised to move to the League One promotion hopefuls after rejecting a new contract with the Dons.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood told his club website: "It is a big blow. He is a great guy to have about the place.
"He is always so positive. His decision is purely for footballing reasons."
Calderwood earlier this month announced that he had persuaded the 25-year-old to sign that new deal.
But it appears that Dempsey has become frustated at not being a first-team regular since following Calderwood to Pittodrie from Dunfermline Athletic.
"I have a great relationship with Gary and fully understand his reasons for leaving," said the manager.
"He just loves playing football and wants to be in the side every week.
"With Scott Severin and Chris Clark here, that is not always possible.
"I thought he was our best player at Ibrox the other week.
"He is a very good passer of the football and it won't be easy getting in someone of his standard as a replacement."
