Hedderman joins Cork

Central defender Robbie Hedderman has left for Cork City as Aberdeen boss Steve Paterson continues his clearout at Pittodrie.

The news comes as Paterson has admitted that he cannot afford Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Barry Robson.

But the Dons boss remains hopeful that a cash wrangle can be resolved so he can keep goalkeeper David Preece at the club.

Irishman Hedderman joined Aberdeen in July from Tolka Rovers but has failed to make the breakthrough into the first-team.

No transfer fee is involved for the 20-year-old's move to Eircom League side Cork.

Paterson joined Aberdeen from Caley Thistle in January and is set to radically change the playing staff once he has the opportunity during the summer.

The 24-year-old Robson was among his top targets and the two clubs held informal talks.

But Paterson said: "Barry is still under contract and we can't afford to pay a fee for any players."

Paterson had also wanted to bring Dennis Wyness back to Aberdeen, but the Caley Thistle striker decided to join Hearts instead.

Dundee United reportedly failed with a 100,000 bid for Robson during the January transfer window and is expected to try again in the summer.

Meanwhile, Preece has been sidelined because Aberdeen cannot afford to trigger an extra 50,000 due to Darlington once he has played 50 first-team appearances.

But the English club's chairman, George Reynolds, has indicated that he is willing to reach a compromise that would allow the 26-year-old to continue his career at Pittodrie.
