Preston Athletic 0-1 Hamilton
Scottish Cup first-timers Preston Athletic gave Hamilton a scare before the Division Two side squeezed through to the second round.

Things started well for Hamilton when Brian McPhee drove home from just inside the box after only four minutes.

Captain Jim Sherry should have doubled the lead in the 15th minute but Graham Lennie superbly touched his effort over.

The second half belonged to Preston and Neil McColl almost rewarded them with a leveller, but his shot rattled the post.

Preston Athletic: Lennie, Thomson, Brown, Yojtowycz, Scott, Nisbett, Moffat, McCall, Dixon, Ballentyne, Houston. Subs: Trayner, Byrne, Ballentyne (Snr), Meenan, Murray.

Hamilton: Potter, Nelson, Cunningham, Dobbins, Sweeney, Alisdair Graham, Russell, Sherry, Alistair S Graham, McPhee, Callaghan. Subs: Bonnar, Walker, Keegans, Elfallah, Jellema.

Referee: J Flemming
