Second half goals by David Bagan and Dennis Wyness secured a quarter final slot for Inverness Caley Thistle.

The visitors had taken the lead through Ross Tokely but Gary Wales equalised before half time.

But the First Division side were not to be denied and scored twice after the break to revive memories of the famous win over Celtic.

Stephane Mahe was first to threaten, shooting past Nicky Walker's post from just outside the box in fifth minute.

In the 10th minute Hearts went close with Fuller holding the ball up for Austin McCann whose cross was headed just over by Thomas Flogel.

The visitors were denied by an excellent Antti Niemi save in the 17th minute.

Russell Duncan's cross was met by Paul Ritchie's downward header from eight yards out but Niemi pushed the ball to safety.

Hearts responded almost immediately with Tommi Gronlund having a 25-yard shot smothered by former Hearts keeper Walker.

Then, Fuller beat two defenders and let fly with a wicked left-foot shot from just inside the penalty area which Walker pushed over for a corner.

But the Highlanders went in front in the 26th minute. Hearts failed to clear Ritchie's cross and Ross Tokely smashed a right-foot shot high into the net.

Chances were at a premium as the SPL side struggled to break down their opponents.

But Hearts grabbed an equaliser in the 45th minute when Gronlund shot from 18 yards from a Fulton corner.

The ball deflected into the path of Wales who smashed the ball home from close range at the back post.

Mahe had to make a defensive clearance by heading the ball behind for a corner from a dangerous Robson cross on 47 minutes.

Inverness forced a couple of corners in succession but Scott Severin headed clear from the second and, at the other end, goalscorer Wales shot over from 20 yards.

Former Aberdeen striker Wyness gave the First Division side the lead again after 57 minutes with his 15th goal of the season in his 100th game for the club.

Keeper Walker's long free-kick found Wyness, who turned Mahe, before sending an unstoppable left-foot shot from just outside the penalty area into the left corner.

Fuller was denied by a goal-saving tackle from Stuart McCaffrey inside the six-yard box in the 64th minute.

Hearts went 3-1 down after a great finish from sub Bagan.

He held off the challenge of Gronlund before side-stepping to the left and then firing past the keeper into the net.
