O'Neill 'going nowhere'
Martin O'Neill shares cup joy with his players
Martin O'Neill shares cup joy with his players
Celtic plc chairman Brian Quinn has insisted that Martin O'Neill will remain manager of the Glasgow club for two more years at least.

O'Neill completed a domestic Treble after he led his side to a 3-0 victory over Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final.

Such success in his first season has led to O'Neill being tipped as the likely successor to Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

But Quinn told BBC Scotland: "He will be at Celtic until the end of his contract at least.

"There has been no contact with Manchester United as far as I am aware.

Manage your resources

"Martin is quite angry about the speculation. He is going nowhere."

Quinn also promised that the plc board would back O'Neill as he brings in players capable of building on this season's achievements.

But he said: "We will support Martin, but it is not just about money."

Perhaps in a backhanded reference to rivals Rangers, Quinn pointed out: "Lots of teams have spent lots of money and not succeeded.

"It is how you manage your resources."

The plc chairman was quick to stress that success had come quicker than they had anticipated and that thoughts of conquering Europe had to be tempered.

"We have to be sensible in our ambition," said Quinn.

"We don't expect to win the Champions League.

"But we have gone further than we thought this season and, if we went further than we expect next year, we would welcome that as well."
