Hamilton are still without a win at New Douglas Park this term as Aberdeen came from behind to secure a draw and plunge the home team nearer relegation.

Accies goalkeeper Tomas Cerny saved a penalty from Chris Maguire early in the second half.

And Hamilton went ahead soon after when Dougie Imrie slotted home a fine finish from Nigel Hasselbaink's pass.

But the Dons levelled an entertaining match when Nick Blackman was on hand to knock in a pass from Maguire.

Hamilton stay rooted to the foot of the Scottish Premier League, nine points behind St Mirren, who drew at Hibs on Sunday.

With just four games remaining, it would require something of a miracle to prevent Billy Reid's side dropping into Division One.

Aberdeen were first to threaten when Maguire turned smartly and let rip with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty that Cerny did well to push away.

The lively Hasselbaink was a handful for the visiting defence, with his direct running, but the Dutchman was too often left isolated up front.

Accies were all at sea at the back and looked particularly vulnerable from set-pieces.

A Zander Diamond header from a corner found Sone Aluko but the winger couldn't control the speeding ball at the back post.

On 32 minutes, a curling free kick from Maguire was kept out by the springing Cerny and, from the resultant corner, the Accies keeper made another impressive save from Andrew Considine's downward header.

Hamilton enjoyed a spell of pressure late in the first half, with Mark McLaughlin and David Hopkirk both heading over from corner kicks.

And Hasselbaink cut in from left to curl a shot narrowly over the top.

Imrie came even closer when, from fully 35 yards out, he turned and cracked a dipping strike that left Jamie Langfield's crossbar quivering.

The second half started with a blizzard of goalmouth incidents, as play raged from end to end at a rapid rate of knots.

A low strike from Rob Milsom was deflected wide before the Dons were awarded a penalty kick for Gary MacDonald's barge on Stevie Smith.

The decision was harsh on the Accies and Maguire could not profit from referee Calum Murray's generosity, placing a tame spot kick at the perfect height for Cerny to claw away.

Hamilton immediately broke at pace and Langfield had to make a smart double save, getting a hand to Hasselbaink's angled shot, then smothering the follow-up effort from James McAlister.

There was no time to draw breath as Aberdeen countered and Maguire was through one-on-one with Cerny.

But the forward, perhaps phased by his penalty miss, chose not to take on the shot and instead squared for team-mate Scott Vernon, giving McLaughlin the chance to get back and make a wonderful saving tackle.

Vernon was then given a glimpse of goal from the edge of the penalty box but could not keep his shot down.

Hamilton made the breakthrough on 64 minutes after some dreadful defending from Diamond.

Under little pressure, the Dons skipper scuffed the ball straight to Hasselbaink and the Accies forward slipped a neat pass to Imrie, who raced into the penalty area and stroked a cool finish beyond the diving Langfield.

Adding injury to insult, the hapless Diamond caught his own keeper with his trailing knee as he raced back in vain.

With blood streaming from a cut on his temple, Langfield had to be replaced by Mark Howard.

Aberdeen's Michael Paton, who been anonymous previously, announced his presence with a rising drive from distance that clipped Cerny's crossbar on its way over.

And the visitors were level when Maguire did well to get the better of Lee Kilday on the left and drill a pass across the face of goal for Blackman to squeeze in at the back post.

Blackman was almost gifted a second goal when the ball fell at his feet in a crowded penalty box following some farcical defending but his shot on the turn cannoned off the post.

The frantic nature of the match continued right up to the final whistle but neither side could find a winning goal.
