Dundee Utd P-P Rangers

Dundee United v Rangers has been postponed
The match at Tannadice has fallen victim to the freezing weather

The Scottish Premier League match at Tannadice has been postponed due to the freezing weather.

The game, scheduled to kick-off at noon, was subject to a 0800 GMT pitch inspection after a period of heavy snowfall across Scotland.

A statement on United's website confirmed: "Today's match has been called off due to the severe weather conditions overnight and this morning."

Rangers are two points clear at the top of the SPL.

Dundee United are in seventh place, a point behind Kilmarnock, who leapfrogged them with a win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

A team of match officials from Luxembourg were due to oversee the match after Scottish referees withdrew their labour for the weekend.

Alain Hamer, who took charge of Celtic's 2-2 draw with Inverness on Saturday, was going to be the man in the middle again.

According to Rangers, "snow overnight made the pitch at Tannadice unplayable and driving conditions treacherous".

With injury to several key players and following a tough midweek defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League, Rangers may welcome the free weekend.

No date has yet been announced for the rescheduled fixture.
