The Scottish Premier League is to appoint a new chief executive with chairman Lex Gold set to take up a non-executive role at the governing body.

A SPL spokesman told BBC Scotland: "This is a priority. Getting someone in place by the start of next season is a more realistic timeframe."

The spokesman would not reveal whether it had contacted anyone about the post.

Scottish Football League chief executive David Longmuir told BBC Scotland he had not been approached.

Longmuir said: "I am completely wrapped up in the SFL. We have a cup final coming up and I am not thinking about anything else. My sole focus is on the SFL".

Gold, 68, has held the post of SPL executive chairman for the past 10 seasons.
