By Thomas McGuigan

1708: Now then. Victory for Kilmarnock sees them move to within three points of second-placed Rangers, who were not in action today.

Jimmy Calderwood's Aberdeen secure a morale-boosting victory at the Falkirk Stadium and St Mirren hang on to take maximum points, despite a spirited fightback from Hamilton Accies.

Falkirk are rooted to the bottom of the SPL, with the Dons moving up to 10th. Earlier, Celtic moved three points clear at the top of the table with a narrow win over Inverness.

That's about it from me today. Thanks for your company, time for a breather. Then, on Sunday, we have the little matter of an Edinburgh derby at Easter Road to attend to.

See ya!

1656: FULL-TIME KILMARNOCK 1-0 MOTHERWELL

1654: FULL-TIME HAMILTON 1-2 ST MIRREN

1652: FULL-TIME FALKIRK 0-1 ABERDEEN

1650: GOAL KILMARNOCK 1-0 MOTHERWELL

Craig Bryson scores at the death for Jim Jefferies's side.

1649: RED CARD Falkirk's Lee Bullen is sent off for chopping Scott Severin. Aberdeen look good for maximum points now.

1648: Three minutes of stoppage time at Falkirk Stadium. The Bairns go route one in search of an equaliser.

1641: BBC Sport's picture gallery has some cracking images of sprinkler-gate from New Douglas Park

1640: Squeaky-bum time for Aberdeen at Falkirk Stadium as they look to hang onto their slender lead and notch a first league win in six games.

1639: "It's 10 years since a 0-0 draw between these two sides." BBC Radio Scotland commentator John Barnes

1638: Going into the closing stages at Rugby Park, Falkirk Stadium and New Douglas Park. Will there be any late goals to cheer?

1634: "So far, Mark Howard's gloves haven't really seen any action." BBC Radio Scotland commentator Paul Mitchell at New Douglas Park.

1632: Steve Lovell again squanders a gilt-edged chance after Darren Mackie's gaffe lets him go one-on-one with Langfield. Lovell spoons it high over the bar when it looked easier to score.

1626: John Sutton is replaced by Bob Malcolm as 10-man Motherwell shuffle their formation. Can the Steelmen hold out for a point? Join the debate

1625: Neat play from Neil McCann who feeds Steve Lovell but his shot bends the wrong way round Langfield's post. Close again, but no cigar for the Bairns.

1624: RED CARD. Motherwell's Paul Quinn is given his marching orders after chopping down David Fernandez. Free-kick to Motherwell, 19 yards out. Mehdi Taouil smacks it against the wall and the ball is cleared.

1622: Tomas Cerny makes another superb save, this time from Steven Robb as St Mirren threaten a third.

1621: "We could go back to half-time with the guy from the X Factor - or was it Britain's Got Talent, from Kilmarnock, playing the spoons in the centre circle."
BBC Radio Scotland commentator John Barnes

What would Simon Cowell, or Peter Kay for that matter, make of events in deepest Ayrshire? Join the debate

1620: Sone Aluko cuts through the Bairns defence like a hot knife through butter. But debutant keeper Scot Flinders narrows the angle, forcing Aluko to rush his shot, which drifts harmlessly wide.

1619: "It's becoming a bit of a midfield battle - a little scrappy."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Stephen Craigan on the goalless fare on offer at Rugby Park

1618: "It's a much better game in the second half."
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Murdo MacLeod on the action at the Falkirk Stadium.

1615: No player rater votes yet for the action at New Douglas Park. Come on, even if it's a quick vote for that rebellious sprinkler, sprinkle some stardust here

1614: Falkirk go close to drawing level. Steve Lovell just misses getting a touch to Michael Higdon's cross with the Dons defence asleep.

1612: Motherwell's John Sutton has a shot cleared off the line by Kilmarnock's Jamie Fowler. We're in need of a goal at Rugby Park. What price Killie boss Jim Jefferies running onto the pitch and firing a 25-yard screamer into the top corner? Okay, maybe not.

1610: "A GOAL FOR THE REDS! Here beginith the revival. Always said Jimmy should stay." Davy, Laurencekirk, via text on 80295

Lee Miller Don good for Jimmy Calderwood's side

1608: "Aberdeen look like an entirely different team this half. Much sharper." BBC Scotland commentator Liam McLeod

1607: There's something afoot here... You reckon Darren Mackie (10.00) is giving a faultless, Lionel Messi-style performance at the Falkirk Stadium. Bring some insanity to proceedings here

1606: GOAL FALKIRK 0-1 ABERDEEN Andrew Considine whips in a fantastic cross and Lee Miller swoops to head the Dons in front.

1603: "Didn't a sprinkler come on a few years ago when Celtic were playing in a Champions League qualifier?" Terence Gurney, via text on 80295

That's a new one on me, Terence. But I do seem to recall Richard Gough being sent off for Scotland after a handball involving a sprinkler.

Any thoughts? Join the debate

1557: "I predict Aberdeen to cave in, in the second half and a final 3-0 score at the Bairnabeu thanks to a Stevie Lovell hat-trick! It'll be like Middlesbrough Chelsea... only colder!"
IroningBru on My Sport

1553: HALF-TIME AT ALL THREE SPL GAMES

1552: "Today's match at Hamilton comes to you courtesy of Salvador Dali Productions." BBC Sport's David Sharp

1551: The game is momentarily stopped at New Douglas Park as the sprinklers come on. Absolutely bizarre. You couldn't make it up, could you? I half expect to see Kevin Costner speed onto the pitch, Waterworld-style!

1550: HALF-TIME Kilmarnock 0-0 Motherwell

1549: Drama in stoppage-time at Rugby Park as Danny Invincibile and David Clarkson are both booked for an off-the-ball incident after referee Alan Muir consulted an assistant

1545: HALF-TIME Falkirk 0-0 Aberdeen

1543: GOAL HAMILTON 1-2 ST MIRREN Billy Mehmet atones for his penalty miss with a looping header that somehow creeps into the net with the Hamilton defence all-at-sea.

1541: "I know a lot of Old Firm fans assume victory will come in every game but that was a REALLY hard-earned three points for Celtic today. There will be many many more nerve-shredding days like today before this season is over. A really really fantastic 3 points for the Bhoys today. If Celtic can continue digging out victories away from home the way we have today, then the 4 in a row dream could become a reality. Come on the Hoops!" Mark Finlayson, Shetland, via text on 80295

1539: PENALTY MISSED St Mirren are awarded a dubios penalty after Steven Robb is challenged in the box. Billy Mehmet takes the spot-kick but Tomas Cerny saves. Mehmet fails to convert the rebound. It remains 1-1

1538: "Jamie Murphy's been the top man so far. He's the man on the pitch who looks like he can make something happen"
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Stephen Craigan

1537: Hamilton's equaliser has now been credited as an own goal by Jack Ross. Mark Corcoran all is forgiven!

1534: Bad news for Celtic ahead of Tuesday's Champions League game against Manchester United. Striker Georgios Samaras faces up to seven weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a cartilage operation. With Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink also out, manager Gordon Strachan has a selection headache ahead of the Old Trafford clash.

1532: "Steve Lovell seems to be a new lease of life at Falkirk."
Liam McLeod at the Falkirk Stadium

1529: GOAL Hamilton 1-1 St Mirren An own goal. Mark Corcoran heads into his own net from a Buddies' free-kick to gift Accies the equaliser. And, to rub salt in his wounds, it comes against his former club. Ouch!

1526: You reckon Celtic's Aiden McGeady was the man of the match in his side's victory over Inverness. He gathered a not-so-sizzling 7.22 rating. What do you think? Use the rater here

1525: It's too quiet on the My Sport pages. Any St Mirren fans out there? Any Hibs and Hearts fans willing to lock horns in cyberspace ahead of Sunday's Edinburgh derby? Let me hear your chat!
Join the debate

1522: Craig Bryson and Danny Invincibile are both denied by Graeme Smith in Kilmarnock's first real assault on goal

1520: GOAL Hamilton 0-1 St Mirren Franco Miranda fires the Buddies in front at New Douglas Park. Robb nicks possession from Hamilton and bursts through the midfield.

Miranda runs onto his threaded pass and hammers the ball low past Rober Cerny. Gus MacPherson's side are in good form after their recent victory over Rangers at Love Street.

1518: Injured Simon Ford is replaced by Jamie Fowler for Kilmarnock after only 15 minutes

1517: Hamilton's Richard Offiong surges down the right and his dangerous looped cross eludes everyone as the St Mirren defence play statues.

1516: Remember, you can vote for the cream of the crop in today's SPL games by using our player rater here

1515: Injured Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan will be struggling to stay impartial as summariser when talking about the Steelmen! His co-commentator John Barnes better watch his shins as the Irishman kicks every ball.

1514: "There's a great tempo to the match" BBC Scotland pundit Stevie Frail hits a high note at the Falkirk Stadium
Join the debate

1510: Slow start at New Douglas Park. Neither team have settled into any kind of rhythm. No goalscoring chances. Sounds quieter than a church mouse convention on a sponsored silence.

1508: Falkirk striker Steve Lovell comes close to scoring against his former club but his header drifts narrowly wide.

1507: Motherwell striker Chris Porter is caught offside at Rugby Park as he looks like putting the visitors ahead. No goals in any of our three SPL games.... yet!
Join the debate

1500: A minute's applause rings out at each of the three SPL grounds, in memory of the late Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson.

1452: A big thank you to Mr Sharp and his rapier-like wit since lunch-time. Good afternoon one and all. Is your team in action this afternoon? Are you hoping for a goal-glut in the BBC Predictor?

I want to hear from you from now until the final whistle. I've been fed and watered and await your thoughts on the action.

By David Sharp

1444: As big Winston C once sagely said: "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." Time to hand the live text baton to my esteemed colleague Thomas McGuigan. Now, be gentle with him you wild rabble...

1441: Don't go away. There are three more games about to kick off. Where have you all gone today? Let's get some chat going here: My Sport

1438: Scotland's Andy Murray has just beaten Roger Federer in the Madrid Masters. On yersel big Muzza!

1431: There was nearly six-and-a-half minutes of stoppage time at the end."
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Scott Davie

1430: FULL-TIME Inverness CT 1-2 Celtic. The reigning champions hang on for a slender victory and now go three points clear of rivals Rangers at the top of the SPL table. Great win for Gordon Strachan's men at a notoriously tricky Highland venue.

1429: Last-chance saloon for Caley Thistle. A free-kick is launched into the Celtic box. After a brief game of heady tennis the ball is cleared and ref Brines blows for full-time. Job done for Celtic.

1427: Marc Crosas has popped his hamstring. He signals to the Celtic bench that he can't carry on. Another injury blow for Celtic ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Manchester United.

1425: A brouhaha in the Celtic box as Caley Thistle try to force the ball home. It's like giant pinball in there. A hooped jersey frantically scrambles the ball out of the danger area.

1423: Celtic sub Cillian Sheridan is clean through. This could clinch it. But Fraser rushes out waving his arms like a demented scarecrow and flaps Sheridan's powder-puff shot away.

1422: Some respite for Celtic as they win a corner on the left. But Maloney's cross is hoofed clear.

1421: Five minutes stoppage time.

1420: Celtic are standing firm as Caley Thistle pile on the pressure.

1418: Caley Thistle's Dougie Imrie has been outstanding this afternoon. He's strutted his stuff with real panache.

1415: Celtic looked to be running away with this game but the Glasgow side are now hanging on for dear life.

1412: A dazzling biblical sun has broken over Glasgow and I'm having trouble seeing the game on our telly...the robot blind has malfunctioned...help!

1410: Good news. The Inverness doctor's initial prognosis is that McGuire hasn't broken an ankle.

1409: "(see 1240)looks like my first prediction could be right, will all the others be correct??" followfollow1972 on My Sport Join the debate

You could be spot on! Or is there still to be another twist in this tale?

1406: "Maybe it's the long, dark nights in the Highlands here, but I think this has been a good game."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

The second half has been much better Brian...but if you thought the first half was much cop then I'm afraid those long, dark nights in the Highlands must be sensationally dull...

1404: McGuire has been taken to hospital to have his ankle checked out. Let's hope it's not too serious.

1402: Celtic suddenly have the jitters. Like a retriever up a rabbit hole, Caley Thistle have perhaps caught the scent of another famous comeback. Can they do it again? My Sport

1402: Goal! Inverness CT 1-2 Celtic. Game on! Garry Wood directs the ball past Boruc from Rooney's knock-down in the six yard box. Great cross from Ross Tokely.

1402: Rooney is coming on for Inverness! Celtic fans need not worry, this is Adam - Wayne is up on Tuesday.

1401: McGeady's slide rule cross narrowly eludes the lunging left boot of Robson. That was a hairsbreadth from 3-0 Celtic.

1400: "It would take something remarkable for Caley Thistle to get back into this now."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

1358: Goal! Inverness CT 0-2 Celtic. Barry Robson's curled cross is met by the noggin of Glenn Loovens and his bullet header hurtles into the back of the net like a blazing comet.

1357: Celtic press for a second. If they score again there could be no way back for Inverness.

1351: Caley Thistle rampage forward on the break. Ian Black attempts a ludicrous chip from the edge of the box. He'd have been better taking that on his left foot. But he went for the Hollywood finish...and completely fluffed it.

1350: "From the kick-off Celtic have been a totally different team from the first half."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

1347: Phil McGuire collides with Aiden McGeady. That looked nasty. The unfortunate Caley Thistle defender is immediately surrounded by emergency medical staff. Could be a broken ankle. He's stretchered off. Jamie Duff takes his place.

1345: "All the credit goes to Lee Naylor for the cross."
> BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

It was a pin-perfect ball into the box from the much-maligned Celtic left-back.

1342: Celtic have suddenly sprung to life. Wee Gordy must've given them some kind of rousing Churchillian speech in the dressing room. "We will fight them in the Highlands..."

1341: Goal! Inverness CT 0-1 Celtic. Lee Naylor's deft cross from the left is stabbed home by Scott Brown. The ball pirouettes past the flailing paw of Michael Fraser. The deadlock has been broken at last.

1339: "Just sorting out my notes there as they blew halfway across the stand."
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Scott Davie as Richard Gordon crossed back to him at the Caledonian Stadium

1338: We're away again!

1337: The teams are back on the field.

1335: Wilson's tracksuit is back on. A reprieve for Loovens.

1333: Time for a tea break. How do you all think this one is going to pan out? Join the debate

1332: Mark Wilson is coming on for Celtic. Not sure who the former Dundee United full-back is going to replace. Loovens?

1328: "RE: 1320 I remember playing with my boys teams and we had kickoffs at 10am. Middle of December and we are on the park at 9.45 getting whacked with those stupid Moldmaster things. Ouch! Remember those anyone?" madscot125 on My Sport Join the debate

I remember it only too vividly madscot. Those wee Moldmaster balls used to sting like jiminy when someone skelped it off your bare legs in the winter...even worse when the hailstones came pelting down on one of those horrible red blaze pitches...

1325: "I'm absolutely gutted. Here I am sitting tuning into radio, tv and the internet on a Saturday once again. The credit crunch is biting my backside so can't afford to go to Rugby Park to see the Mighty 'Well today. Going to be a tough game I think with both teams strengths going head to head. Still, I think the 'well will come out on top with a narrow 2-1 victory. Expect Smellic to win 3-0, Falkirk and Aberdeen 2-2. Also hoping for an Accies defeat, 1-0 to the Saints." madscot125 on My Sport Join the debate

Unless something crazy happens in the second half at Caledonian Stadium I can't see Celtic winning 3-0. In saying that, I dearly HOPE summat crazy happens.

1320: Dreadful first half. Turgid. These early kick-offs are guff. Everyone is still asleep. And no wonder; it's unnatural to play football at this time. Still, no excuse for this shoddy fare.

1318: Scott Brown piles into a tackle on Imrie. Brines brandishes yellow at the unhinged Celtic midfielder. The game has suddenly flamed into being. Typical Scottish football match - it always takes some wild tackle to spice things up.

1317: "It was a fair dunt. We heard the crack up here in the stand."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

Black basically wellied McGeady on the leg with the ball long gone...

1316: Black scythes McGeady. Terrible challenge. Ref Brines sprints over with his hand in his top pocket. Black has already been booked. The ref has to send him off. No! The guillotine fails to fall on Black. Oooh, controversial stuff.

1312: "If Wood had angled it either side of Boruc it would have been a goal."
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Scott Davie

1311: Nifty one-two between Wood and Cowie in the Celtic box. Wood can see the white of Boruc's eyes and shapes to shoot from close range. Wood must score! But Boruc somehow saves with his feet. Caley Thistle are foiled again.

1306: Slack play from Loovens. Imrie curls a great free-kick over the Celtic wall and Boruc leaps, Greg Louganis-style, and touches the ball over the bar. Excellent save to thwart Caley Thistle.

1303: "Caley have ground out some famous victories against the Celts, not forgetting winning 1-0 at Caley Stadium in the Scottish cup. It's always a thrilling affair." TheKarlICT on My Sport Join the debate

Well, let me tell you Karl, there's certainly been no thrills in this game today...at least so far...

1300: Celtic are really missing Samaras and Vennegoor of Hesselink. Without the two giant strikers Maloney and McGeady have no targets to hit. Barry Robson was burst a gut to get himself into the Caley Thistle box there. With no-one to pass to Maloney was twisting and turning himself into knots on the right wing.

1257: Caley Thistle are playing tippy-tappy football and keep gifting the ball to Celtic. It's all rather scrappy at the moment.

1255: But with twenty minutes gone the visitors have done next to hee-haw going forward. Although they have some decent possession now. McGeady pings a probing cross into the box but the ball is headed clear.

1253: "Celtic packed the six-yard box for that corner with so much height, so much power. They are starting to impose themselves on the game
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Scott Davie

1250: With the Celtic defence all at sea, that man Hastings squanders a glorious chance for Caley Thistle. The ball falls perfectly for the Canadian at the back post but he leans back and skews his shot high and wide. Hastings, like a drunken Weeble, was completely off-balance there but still somehow managed to stay on his feet. Well, you know what they say: Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.

1247: At the precise moment Brian Irvine said that (see below), Hastings, resembling a jet-lagged zombie in a trance, made a hilarious gaffe.

1245: "Richard Hastings looks fresh for Inverness despite being involved in World Cup qualifying games for Canada this week
BBC Radio Scotland summariser Brian Irvine

1243: Inverness have made a bright start to the match and pushing forward in droves. Cowie's snap shot is deflected wide.

1240: "My predictions for the day: Inverness 1-2 Celtic; Killie 1-1 Motherwell; Falkirk 1-0 Aberdeen; Hamilton 2-1 St Mirren; and for tomorrow, Hearts 2-2 Hibs. What do you think then David or do you have predictions of your own? followfollow1972 on My Sport Join the debate

I concur with your predictions. All of them. I think you could be spot on. Ha, managed to wriggle out of that one!

1238: Of course, who can forget the classic headline from February 2000: 'Super Caley Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious.' Well, perhaps Celtic fans would prefer to obliterate that crazy night from their collective memories...

1236: In the corresponding fixture here last season Celtic blew a two-goal lead and eventually lost 3-2 to ten-man Inverness. Cowie notched a dramatic winner that day.

1235: Ref Ian Brines blows his whistle and we're off!

1234: "It's a blustery grey day in Inverness, but there's been plenty of colour in this fixture in recent times
BBC Radio Scotland commentator Scott Davie

1233: The crowd burst into a minute's applause for the late Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson. A nice touch.

1232: Garry Wood leads the line for the home side with Don Cowie providing able support for the young striker

1230: We're running a tad late but the teams are now in the tunnel, poised to trot out onto the pitch at the Caley Stadium.

1225: Has Strachan thrown Celtic fans a giant curveball. What happened to Samaras? Did he miss his plane home from the 2-1 home defeat to Switzerland? In fact, I think he's injured...that's a huge blow.

1220: Samaras out! That's a shocker! The swashbuckling Greek striker has already bagged eight league goals so far this season. He won't be allowed to add to that tally today. Your thoughts please: My Sport

1215: Team news from the Highlands: Celtic's top scorer Georgios Samaras is omitted from the squad after arriving back late from international duty with Greece.

Shaun Maloney replaces the injured Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, while fellow Dutchman Glen Loovens starts ahead of Mark Wilson.

Garry Wood replaces the injured Andrew Barrowman for Inverness, with Phil McGuire and Russell Duncan also start.

1210: Caley Thistle have Ian Black and Russell Duncan available again after recovering from injury.

1205: Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has been ruled out for Celtic. He's failed to recover from a groin strain.

1200: Are you all sitting comfortably? Then let's begin...

Famous Danish physicist Niels Bohr once said, "Predictions can be very difficult - especially about the future." You don't say Niels!
