Hunt was celebrating two goals at Tannadice
|
Noel Hunt claimed two goals as Dundee United came from behind to overpower Inverness Caley Thistle at Tannadice.
Barry Wilson curled a wonderful 15th minute free kick into the top corner to fire Inverness in front.
But United were level on 22 minutes when Craig Conway swung in a cross and Hunt headed home from close range.
Hunt tapped in from just a yard out and David Robertson clipped in a neat third, while Craig Dargo missed a late penalty for Inverness.
United went into the match looking for a fourth home victory in a row and dominated the early exchanges but were guilty of squandering a number of good opportunities.
Mark Brown was Caley's best player and he made a number of crucial saves, including one point black save from Hunt.
Inverness rarely troubled United and their performance was summed up when Dargo missed a penalty with six minutes remaining.
And the visitors had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the score-line down.
Brown kept out Hunt on a number of occasions but the Irish striker, who was restored to starting XI, was not to be denied and his glancing header got United back in the game.
The home had fallen behind against the run of play when Wilson found the back of the net with a curling right foot effort.
United were unlucky to go in at half time on even terms when Brown this time denied Robson with a good save.
The visitors almost snatched the lead again when John Rankin's free kick went wide with Derek Stillie rooted to the spot.
However, they failed to contain Hunt who scored his second with a neat finish on the 64th minute after Robson's corner had been flicked on.
And Hunt had an assist in the third 13 minutes later when Robertson sealed victory for Craig Levein's side.
