Rangers 4-0 Falkirk
Dado Prso celebrates after scoring Rangers' second goal

Rangers eased to victory over Falkirk and were boosted by the return to action of captain Barry Ferguson for the first time since April.

Phil Bardsley, on loan from Manchester United, fired in a superb 30-yard free-kick to establish an early lead.

Dado Prso blasted home from 10 yards after being set up by Brahim Hemdani.

And, after Ferguson came off the bench, Kris Boyd scored from the penalty spot and Thomas Buffel added the fourth with a 30-yard drive.

Bardsley and Chris Burke were back to fitness along with Ferguson and had come in for Alan Hutton and Lee Martin.

New Falkirk signing Anthony Stokes made his debut up front, while fellow new recruits John Stewart and Tam McManus were named as substitutes.

But the teenager on loan from Arsenal was a virtual spectator early on as Rangers started the game in attack.

Julien Rodriguez rose above everyone else only for his header to drift over the crossbar from eight yards following a Burke corner.

Stokes was not too far away with a long-range effort that dipped just over.

But Rangers took the lead after 16 minutes, when Kenny Milne fouled Boyd 30 yards out and Bardsley left the ball nestling in the bottom corner of the net from the free-kick.

Falkirk tried to haul themselves back into the game, but a long, low effort from Patrick Cregg was comfortably held by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

And Rangers stretched their lead with 27 minutes gone.

Brahim Hemdani skipped past Tam Scobbie on the right flank before cutting the ball back to Prso, who fired past helpless goalkeeper Scott Higgins from 10 yards.

Rangers came close to adding to their lead before the first half ended.

Prso threaded the ball through to Boyd, who screwed the ball well wide with only the goalkeeper to beat, before a thunderous effort from Burke crashed off the crossbar.

Ferguson replaced Libor Sionko at half time and Rangers' captain set up Burke, who forced a fine save from Higgins from close range.

But Darren Barr then hauled down Boyd and the Scotland striker slammed the ball into the top right-hand corner from the penalty spot.

And Buffel completed the scoring with a fine, long-range effort.
