A Steve Lovell header with five minutes left earned the visitors a point after the third Dundee derby of the season.

United took the lead after 12 minutes when Brent Sancho slipped trying to get to Mark Wilson's cross, leaving Stuart Duff to stab the ball home.

Dundee levelled the scores on 71 minutes when Tam McManus headed in a Fabian Caballero cross.

Eight minutes later, Jim McIntyre thought he had given United the points when he nodded in a Mark Wilson cross.

Dundee enjoyed the better of the opening stages and a flash of skill from Caballero was enough to carve the home side open in the sixth minute.

He turned Derek McInnes and released McManus into the right channel.

The former Hibernian man raced into the box, but over-ran the ball allowing Paul Ritchie the chance to clear.

United burst towards the Dundee goal and took the lead in the 12th minute.

Sancho slipped trying to get to Wilson's cross, leaving Duff with a six-yard stab into the back of the net.

David McCracken rescued United after 27 minutes with a goal-line clearance to deny Lee Wilkie, who met Mark Fotheringham's corner with a powerful header.

Another slip from Sancho almost cost the Dark Blues dear after the interval, but thankfully for them substitute Bobby Man was on hand to rob Stevie Crawford of the ball as he prepared to shoot.

Play swept to the other end, with United trying desperately to hold on to their lead.

Lovell's cushioned header found Caballero, who spun on the spot and thought he had levelled - until McCracken stepped in to boot clear.

Dundee grabbed the equaliser in the 71st minute through Tam McManus.

Caballero provided a flash of inspiration, completing a one-two with McDonald before landing the ball on his team-mate's head a few yards out.

Eight minutes later, United drew level again through Jim McIntyre.

Mark Wilson beat Caballero easily on the right-hand side and whipped a cross in for McIntyre, who stole a yard on Sancho and headed into the net via the defender's shoulder.

However, the visitors drew level for the second time in the game, this time through Lovell.

United were flat-footed when faced with McDonald's cross, leaving space for the striker to sneak in and direct the ball past Colgan for his 11th goal of the season.
