Motherwell 0-2 Rangers
Dado Prso opened the scoring at Fir Park
Dado Prso hit an early goal for Rangers at Fir Park
Dado Prso scored twice as Rangers closed the gap on SPL leaders Celtic to five points with a hard-earned win.

Striker Prso gave Rangers an early lead when he sprinted clear of the home defence and clipped the ball over the advancing Gordon Marshall.

Rangers keeper Stefan Klos made good saves to deny Scott McDonald and David Clarkson in a lively first half.

Prso and Fernando Ricksen had chances for the visitors before the Croat shot home his second goal after 82 minutes.

Klos got his gloves dirty when he blocked an early David Partridge drive and soon after he gathered a tame effort from McDonald, after the striker had turned Marvin Andrews with some clever chest control.

But with seven minutes on the clock it was Rangers who went ahead when Ricksen slid a loose pass into the path of Prso, who took the ball past two defenders.

With Marshall going to ground early, the Croatian striker comfortably chipped in from 10 yards.

Ricksen then saw his 30-yard free-kick held at the near post by Marshall.

McDonald was looking dangerous for Motherwell and Klos had to make an acrobatic stop to keep out the Australian's powerful angled shot from just inside the area.

Clarkson was next to threaten for the home side when he stole in behind the flat Ranges defence but Klos got down smartly to save the youngster's hurried low drive.

Phil O'Donnel and Gregory Vignal battle for possession
It was a high-tempo contest at Fir Park
Rangers had the chance to extend their lead on the stroke of half-time when Chris Burke fed the ball through to Nacho Novo but the Spaniard shot wide of target.

Soon after the interval, Prso was a full stretch to reach a dangerous low cross from Novo but he could only find the side-netting from six yards.

On the hour, Motherwell's Phil O'Donnell whipped a tantalising ball across the face of the Rangers' goal but both Clarkson and McDonald had rushed ahead of the ball in the eagerness to score.

Motherwell skipper Scott Leitch then fired in a raking shot from 20 yards that Klos got his fingertips to, although it appeared to be going wide.

As the game ebbed and flowed at a rapid rate of knots, Ricksen saw his fierce drive from distance well saved by Marshall.

With eight minutes remaining, Novo gathered the ball at the half-way line and surged forward to set up Prso, who powered a low shot through the legs of Marshall.

The home side had a chance to pull one back with a free-kick inside the penalty box after Klos had picked up a back-pass but Novo was on hand to head clear Hammell's chipped effort.
