Burton O'Brien, Craig Easton and Stuart Lovell were all on target to ruin Inverness' SPL debut.
Visiting defender Stuart McCaffrey misjudged a header back to keeper Mark Brown to allow O'Brien to run the ball into the net after 44 minutes.
A low cross from David McNamee was flicked in by Easton on 57 minutes as Livingston began to dominate.
The points were wrapped up in the 66th minute when Lovell played a one-two with Jim Hamilton and rounded Brown.
Livingston gave debuts to four of their nine new signings, with Easton, Steven Boyack and Marc Libbra in the starting 11 for the first time on league duty.
Back in the side was striker Derek Lilley, who left Livi for Boston in the summer only to return to the West Lothian side before the new campaign began.
Inverness had one debutant in their side, Graham Bayne, with recent signing Bryan Prunty starting on the bench.
Inverness had the first effort on goal after only two minutes, but midfielder Liam Keogh's snapshot from the edge of the box flew over the bar.
Six minutes later, a Stuart Golabek free-kick from inside his own half was headed down by Barry Wilson to Bayne but the striker's turn and shot went high over the crossbar.
Livingston retaliated and Easton's cross from the left struck the Inverness crossbar before rebounding to safety.
Lilley then mis-kicked from eight yards out when a goal seemed certain.
Inverness continued to look the more lively and Wilson sent a 25-yard free-kick whizzing by the post.
In the 36th minute, the Highlanders had the home side in a panic when a Roy McBain cross from the left sped across the six-yard box but found no takers.
But Livingston went in front right on the stroke of half time when O'Brien worked a one-two with Boyack and McCaffrey intervened only to head the ball over his own keeper's head and allowed O'Brien an easy tap-in.
Livingston started the second half in confident mood and found an attacking rhythm that was missing in the early stages.
McNamee brilliantly beat Golabek on the right-hand touchline and, when his low cross came into the near post, Easton flicked the ball high into the net past the helpless Brown.
Livingston made the three points secure when they scored a deserved third.
Lovell played a one-two with substitute Hamilton and the Livingston captain had the break of the ball as he ran onto the return pass, allowing him to walk round Brown and slip the ball into the net from a yard out.
Inverness continued to fight and, in the 75th minute, a 25-yard free-kick by substitute Richard Hart was brilliantly saved by McKenzie.
But Livingston, safe in the knowledge that the first three points of the season were safe, were happy to play out the final minutes of the game and soak up the increasingly desperate Inverness pressure.
