Dundee United 1-4 Rangers
Premier League leaders Rangers carried on their winning ways, picking up a comfortable three points at Tannadice on Sunday.
Ronald de Boer celebrates with a stylish tumble
Ronald de Boer turned in a wonderful first half performance for the visitors, scoring twice and setting up Shota Arveladze for another.
De Boer worked his magic again midway through the second half to provide for Arveladze once again.
United battled gamely in the second 45 minutes and were unlucky not to get more than a Billy Dodds goal for their attacking endeavour.
In the early stages both sides found it difficult to cope with the rutted pitch that had been liberally sprinkled with sand.
United's Jim McIntyre fired in the first shot of the game but Rangers goalkeeper Stefan Klos was right behind his low drive from outside the box.
Rangers stepped up the pressure and had the home side pinned back with a series of corner kicks.
And the Ibrox side took the lead in the 10th minute when Peter Lovenkrands crossed from the left and de Boer took the ball down skilfully in the box before firing low past Scotland goalkeeper Paul Gallacher.
De Boer then tried his luck from well outside the box and Gallacher could only divert the ball round for another corner.
De Boer was the supplier for Rangers' second in the 17th minute when he fired in a cross from the left that was too pacy for any defender to intercept but perfect for Arveladze to head home from close range.
United almost grabbed a goal in the 40th minute when Arthur Numan could only clear as far as Mark Wilson on the edge of the box but the teenager saw his shot bounce off the crossbar, with Klos beaten.
De Boer produced a sublime turn in the box to get away from Andy Tod and fire in a cross but, although it found Ricksen at the back post, he could only head
into the side-netting.
Rangers were comfortable winners at Tannadice
De Boer made it 3-0 in first half stoppage time with a neat touch over Gallacher at his near post after being set up by Mikel Arteta.
The home side came out with their tails up for the second half and took the game to Rangers with an aggression missing from their earlier play.
Klos produced a wonderful diving save to deny a long range shot from ex-Gers man Russell Latapy and the German keeper had to look lively to deny further efforts from McIntyre and Jim Paterson.
However, United found themselves further behind after 69 minutes when de Boer drifted past three challenges with ease before slipping a wonderful pass into the path of Arveladze, who thundered a shot into the top corner of the net from 16 yards.
United kept battling and substitute Dodds was on hand to knock in a consolation goal from close range two minutes later.
