Rangers ease past Livi
Shota Arveladze doubles Rangers lead
Arveladze added to Amoruso's opener
Livingston 1-2 Rangers

Rangers maintained their six-point lead at the top of the SPL table with a comfortable win over Livingston at Almondvale.

First half goals from Lorenzo Amoruso and Shota Arveladze were enough to give the Ibrox men all three points with Eugene Dadi scoring a late consolation goal for the home team.

But the game could have seen a different outcome had Rolando Zarate converted a 72nd minute penalty for Livi.

The first chance of the game came the way of Livingston in the third minute after Craig Moore had headed a cross into the box only as far as Burton O'Brien, who blasted over from the edge of the area.

But it was Rangers who took the lead In the eighth minute when Mikel Arteta delivered a corner from the right and Amoruso rose above Philippe Brinquin to power a header past Alan Main into the net.

Arteta bundled O'Brien over a few seconds later and the resulting free-kick saw Lee Makel firing goalwards only for Amoruso's head to get in the way.

Arveladze netted from Rangers' next attack in the 15th minute and the Livingston defence were all at sea.

Arteta sent Neil McCann galloping down the left and four Livi defenders failed to intercept his cross.

And with goalkeeper Main rooted to the spot, Arveladze stooped to head home from close range.

Livi rallied but when Francisco Quino tried his luck from the edge of the area Stefan Klos was right behind his low drive.

Livi should have pulled a goal back when Zarate's cross from the left found Steve Lovell free in the box but his weak shot was saved easily by Klos.

Rangers came out strongly at the start of the second half and Arveladze forced Main into a parry at the near post with O'Brien clearing the ball off the line from the Georgian's follow-up.

Minutes later Brinquin had to be strong to prevent McCann poaching a third in the six-yard box.

Livingston's reply was a move which saw Dadi canter into the box before firing across goal and wide.

Gustave Bahoken had to block at the near post to deny Mols after Muscat had crossed from the right.

Then Barry Ferguson's defence-splitting pass found Arveladze in space in the box but Main made a crucial block.

Livingston squandered a golden opportunity to get themselves back into the game when Zarate's penalty 20 minutes from time was saved brilliantly by Klos.

Rangers winger McCann headed wide at the far post from close range and then Bahoken was denied by Klos with another fine near post save.

Steven Thompson was denied by Main with two minutes remaining and then the keeper kept out a stoppage-time diving header.

Dadi's diving header from a Zarate cross in the final seconds was too little too late for Livi.
