Dundee draw at Firhill

Gavin Rae's second goal in four days gave Dundee a share of the spoils at Firhill.

Partick Thistle midfielder Jamie Mitchell had deservedly fired the home side ahead five minutes before the interval.

But Dundee were dangerous on the break and Thistle had to make do with yet another draw on their return to the Scottish Premier League.

Partick legend Chic Charnley was named among the Firhill substitutes for the visit of Dundee.

The 39-year-old, who was signed by John Lambie last month, was set to make his fourth debut for the club against another former club, Dundee.

Midfielder Mitchell returned after a shoulder injury at the expense of Gerry Britton, who dropped out of the squad altogether.

Dundee, unbeaten in their last three league games, have put together a good run, but manager Jim Duffy was dealt a blow when influential Giorgi Nemsadze failed a fitness test.

Garry Brady came in as a replacement in midfield to win his first start.

Partick striker Alex Burns was the man to come closest in the tight opening stages.

First, he brought a great save from Dundee goalkeeper Julian Speroni at his left-hand post from a free kick he won himself at the edge of the box.

Then Speroni turned Burns' back-post header on to the crossbar.

The home side eventually took the lead their pressure deserved in the 40th minute.

Burns swung a cross from the right and Mitchell outbattled Lee Wilkie for the ball inside the six-yard box and rolled ball into the net.

The visitors came out with a renewed sense of determination and could have equalised immediately, when Rae scuffed his shot wide of the post from close range.

Dundee were level after 49 minutes, Rae working a one-two with Caballero inside the Dens box before the Scotland international swept a left-foot shot past the helpless Arthur.

Midfielder Jamie Buchan almost restored the home side's lead moments later, but his shot from 30 yards cannoned off the post.

Then Alan Archibald's inch-perfect cross into the box was met by Burns and his fierce header beat Speroni but bounced off the bar and away to safety.

Both sides pressed for the winner but had to settle for a draw, the biggest cheer coming when Charnley came on for his debut in his third spell at Firhill.
