Scots TV deal claim
Live Scottish action could be coming to BBC screens
The Scottish Premier League looks to have secured a television deal for the next two seasons.
Although there has no been no official confirmation from the BBC, the Rangers website reports that an agreement has been reached with the broadcasters. The Ibrox club say that a £24m package will include live games on terrestrial television. After the collapse of the proposed SPL pay-per-view satellite channel at the end of last season, the ten clubs outside the Old Firm threatened to resign from the league and form their own breakaway set-up. The voting structure which lead to the breakdown in relations between the clubs is also reported to have been changed. The previous system required 11 of the 12 clubs to be in favour of any changes. Now www.rangers.co.uk are claiming future decisions can be made with an 8-4 vote. The website goes on to say that Rangers and Celtic will each receive £2m a year from the new deal, which represents a large percentage cut from previous demands. The BBC and the SPL have declined to comment on the story, which has since been removed from the site.
