All square in Dundee derby
Juan Sara scores Dundee's first goal at Tannadice
Dundee Utd 2-2 Dundee
A dramatic injury time goal by Jim Hamilton allowed Dundee United to take a share of the points against city rivals Dundee at Tannadice. Charlie Miller should have put the home side ahead when he stepped up for a penalty kick. But the former Rangers midfielder hit the bar before making amends by grabbing the opener nine minutes later. However, within two minutes, the Dens Park side were on level terms when Juan Sara fired them ahead before Gavin Rae doubled the advantage. But just when Ivano Bonetti's side looked set to take all three points, Hamilton nodded home a Jim Paterson corner to ensure a point apeice. United were without the suspended Craig Easton but new signing Jim McIntyre was handed a place in the starting line-up for his competitive debut. Despite injury concerns, Zurab Khizanishvili made the starting eleven for Dundee, although Javier Artero missed out after feeling unwell earlier in the week. United had a good chance to take the lead after 13 minutes when Jamie McCunnie swung a ball into the box that was met by Derek Lilley but the striker miskicked the ball in front of goal and the chance was wasted. The visitors also had a few early chances. A Georgi Nemsadze free-kick into the penalty box was met by Khizanishvili who nodded the ball goalwards only for goalkeeper Paul Gallacher to save well. Carranza then squared the ball to the on-rushing Marcello Marrocco, who fired a shot towards goal but the effort just skimmed over the crossbar. With 20 minutes gone United were awarded a penalty kick. Jamie Buchan released McIntyre, who burst into the box and was hauled to the ground by goalkeeper Jamie Langfield. Charlie Miller sent Langfield the wrong way but the ball smacked the crossbar with no-one following up for the rebound. Miller made amends after 29 minutes when he gave United the lead.
But the home side's joy proved to be shortlived and, just two minutes later, Juan Sara fired the leveller past Gallacher. United had the first chance after the restart and they could have reclaimed their lead when a Miller corner was cleared by Sara - but only to Buchan, who fired inches wide of the post. Dundee quickly recovered though and two minutes later they stormed into the lead. An Alessandro Romano cross was met by Sara in front of goal but instead of trying to net, he nodded the ball onto Gavin Rae, who was better placed to knock the ball over the line from just a couple of yards out. The Tannadice side could have levelled 10 minutes later when substitute Jim Paterson's cross found Lilley just outside the six-yard box but he sent his header just wide of the post. At the other end of the park, Romano crossed to Sara, who would have nodded Dundee further ahead had he not been denied by Gallacher. With just 15 minutes remaining Dundee United pushed forward in a bid to try to take something from the game. Jim Hamilton came close firstly with a header that flew just over the crossbar and that was quickly followed by a Buchan shot that was also just inches off target. Buchan had another last desperate attempt with just two minutes remaining but his effort deflected off Carranza and over the crossbar. But, as the game headed into injury time, Dundee United sneaked the leveller. A Paterson corner was met by substitute Hamilton, who nodded home to spark a pitch invasion by the home support.
