Three and easy at Dundee

Dundee 0-3 Rangers

Dundee spurned a hatful of chances as Rangers eased to a comfortable victory that cemented their Champions League place.

First-half goals from Rod Wallace, Tore Andre Flo and Jorg Albertz were enough to secure the three points for Rangers.

The Glasgow side were well worth their victory.

But Dundee had the chances to win their first home game since 18 November and repeat their recent victory over the former champions.

And they missed striker Claudio Caniggia, a reported hamstring problem preventing him from facing the club he is tipped to be joining in the summer.

Rangers were making their third league trip of the season to Dens Park, a quirk thrown up by the new halfway split after 33 games.

Two bad defences

The deposed champions brought back former skipper Lorenzo Amoruso after a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of injury forcing Sergio Porrini to the bench.

But they continued with the 3-4-1-2 formation that has encouraged a revival.

It took Rangers just under four minutes to take the lead.

Rod Wallace somehow managed to brush the towering Steven Tweed aside after a hopeful punt up the park by Bert Konterman.

And the diminutive striker volleyed over goalkeeper Jamie Langfield for his first goal since September.

Giorgi Nemsadze surged past several challengers to carve out an excellent equalising opportunity.

But, with only Stefan Klos to beat, he shot straight at the German, then Tweed nodded tamely over.

Rangers doubled their lead after 16 minutes, Flo taking advantage of Chris Coyne's indecision to slip the ball deftly past Langfield.

Played out time

Juan Sara twice shot straight at Klos from close range when he should have scored.

Instead it was Rangers who increased their lead, Albertz sending a 25-yard drive past Langfield to put his side three up inside 30 minutes.

Wallace headed over when Flo might have been better placed after the break.

Dundee made more chances and Sara, who missed two penalties in a previous meeting with Rangers, headed over when he should have scored.

Klos then did well to parry then grab a fierce Gavin Rae shot from outside the area.

But Rangers had the game well under control and played out time to gather the three points.
