Stenhousemuir 0-0 Stranraer
Stranraer failed to repeat their feat of knocking Stenhousemuir out of the
Bell's Challenge Cup and instead had to settle for a goalless draw against Brian
Fairley's side.
The home side came close early on when visiting keeper Mark McGeown had to react to a Gordon Abbott header which was dipping just under the crossbar. Three minutes later indecision between Isaac English and Ian Ferguson cost Stenny a chance to break the deadlock. As both strikers hesitated with only McGeown to beat, Dougie Johnstone stepped in to boot clear. After the break Stenhousemuir passed up another glorious opportunity when Martin Mooney failed to control when McGeown fumbled a Barry Donald header. With 90 minutes on the clock, however, the visitors almost stole the points. Substitute Sandy Hodge hit a shot from 25 yards that beat home goalkeeper Ryan McGurk but full-back Andy Storrar popped up on the line to save the day. Stenhousemuir: McGurk, Storrar, Donaldson, Vella, Stone, Graeme Donald, Mooney, Jackson, Ferguson, English, Abbott. Subs: Sandison, Cormack, Barry Donald, Shanks, Banner. Stranraer: McGeown, Wingate, Johnstone, Farrell, Gaughan, Aitken, Jenkins, McDonald, Harty, Finlayson, Sherry. Subs: George, Gallagher, Hodge, Weir, O'Neil. Referee: J Gilmour (Scotland).
