Raith Rovers 1-3 Ayr United
Paddy Connelly scored one of the goals of the season as Ayr kept up their promotion push with a comfortable 3-1 win at Raith.

The on-loan striker sealed the points for the visitors in the 76th minute with a dazzling display of skill which took him past four defenders before he smashed the ball home.

Cash-strapped Raith's collection of youngsters and seasoned veterans were no match for a confident Ayr side who were always in control the moment Glynn Hurst bundled them ahead from close range in the fifth minute.

The same player added his second in the 47th minute when he raced clear to coolly slot home and despite enjoying plenty of possession, Raith failed to get a shot on target until 15 minutes from time.

They did manage an injury-time consolation when Andy Clark set up substitute Ivan Mballa to score from a close range but by then it was too little too late.

Raith Rovers: Van De Kamp, McCulloch, Dennis, Hamilton, Browne, Black, Nicol, Ellis, Creaney, Clark, Stein.

Subs: Hetherston, Shields, Mballa, Hampshire, Coyle.

Ayr United: Nelson, McEwan, Lovering, Campbell, Craig, Duffy, Connolly, Wilson, Hurst, Annand, McGinlay.

Subs: Reynolds, Scally, Crilly, Bradford, Rovde.

Referee: S Dougal
