East Fife ended Ayr's unbeaten run as both sides finished a bad-tempered game with 10 men and United lost their lead in Division Two.

Paul McManus rifled the ball past Stephen Grindlay after 35 minutes, but East Fife's Greig McDonald and Jon Smart were both stretchered off.

Lloyd Young's drive was deflected into the net before Shaun Fagan and Chris Aitken were sent off for fighting.

And McManus netted Fife's third after 83 minutes from the penalty spot.
