Forfar triumphed over local rivals Montrose in a thrilling Angus derby.

Both sides passed up early chances with Martyn Fotheringham volleying wide for Forfar, and Garry Wood bringing out a fine save for Forfar's Sandy Wood.

Defender Alan Rattray broke the deadlock when he headed home at the far post from a Fotheringham free kick.

Montrose pressed for an equaliser and should have pulled level when John Baird had a header saved by Wood and Steven Doris put the rebound wide.
