Stephen Dobbie scored a first-half hat-trick as Hibernian crushed Montrose at Easter Road in the CIS Insurance Cup.
Captain Ian Murray slots home Hibs fifth goal
Scotland Under-21 international Garry O'Connor scored twice, while a goal apiece from Ian Murray, Derek Riordan and Scott Brown plus an own-goal from Steve Kerrigan booked Hibs' place in the third round.
The unfancied visitors got off the worst possible start when Roland Edge crossed the ball into the area for O'Connor.
The striker touched the ball off into the path of former Rangers striker Dobbie and he finished brilliantly with an angled shot from 20 yards into the far corner with just 52 seconds on the clock.
Hibs went further ahead in the 18th minute when O'Connor rose above the away defence to head a Stephen Glass corner into the net.
In the 29th minute, Dobbie grabbed his second of the evening, taking a cute pass from Tom McManus and clipping the ball over keeper Michael Hankinson.
He added to that two minutes later from the spot after Hankinson felled him in the area, firing the ball to the right of the diving keeper for his hat-trick.
Dobbie grabbed a first half hat-trick for Hibs
Hibs extended their advantage in the 66th minute when Murray angled a shot beyond Hankinson off a post.
Then Kerrigan fired through his own net in the 70th minute to make it 6-0.
However, the pick of the bunch was saved for the seventh goal when sub Riordan brilliantly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.
O'Connor added a solo effort four minutes before the end followed by sub Brown who rolled the final goal under Hankinson to make it nine.
