Falkirk 0-2 Ayr Utd
Scott Crabbe returned to haunt his old side by helping Ayr United to an impressive win at Falkirk.

The veteran striker scored with a stunning free-kick and substitute James Grady wrapped up the points at the death.

Falkirk should have opened the scoring in the 19th minute.

Kevin McAllister's corner was turned goalwards by defender Lee Wilkie's towering header, but Craig Nelson in the Ayr goal stretched superbly to claw the attempt away.

Ayr came close seven minutes later.

Crabbe's purposeful header across the face of goal should have been converted by Pat McGinley, but the former Celtic player could not quite connect.

Wonderful strike

Falkirk were inches away from taking the lead after 56 minutes.

Kevin Christie's header was instinctively flicked towards goal by Lee Miller, but the ball cannoned off the crossbar.

A minute later, Crabbe's spin and volley produced a fingertip save from Myles Hogarth.

Crabbe was not to be denied and he scored the opener on the hour.

He was fouled by Christie and, from the free-kick, the striker curled a wonderful strike round the wall and beyond the hapless Hogarth.

Substitute Grady sealed the win three minutes from time, when he took advantage of an under-hit backpass from Christie to round the goalkeeper and slot home.

Falkirk: Hogarth, Lawrie, McQuilken, McStay, Wilkie, Christie, McAllister, Kerr, Miller, Morris, Craig. Subs: Rennie, Wright, Waddell, Rodgers, Hill.

Ayr: Nelson, McEwan, Lovering, Robertson, Hughes, Craig, Crabbe, McGinlay, Annand, Moss, Sheerin. Subs: Grady, McLaughlin, Sharp, Wilson, Dodds.
