Raith Rovers 1-2 Partick
Gerry Britton's brace fired Partick to their first victory of the
new campaign against 10-man Raith.
The 30-year-old striker replaced the injured Barry Elliot after 37 minutes and, in first-half injury-time, he put the visitors ahead when he followed up after a Scott McLean shot was parried by Raith goalkeeper Sammy Monin. The goal was allowed despite Raith claims that the ball was cleared before it crossed the line. Four minutes after the re-start Britton doubled his side's lead when he cheekily back-heeled the ball into the net from close range after a corner. Raith, who had been second-best throughout, pulled a goal back after 56 minutes when Scott Crabbe scored his first goal for the club. But any chance they had of mounting a comeback disappeared not long after when Nacho Navo was sent off for a second booking. Raith felt they should have had a penalty near the end and once the protests had died down manager Peter Hetherston was sent from the dugout. Raith: Monin, Zoco, Ellis, Dennis, Browne, Henderson, Navo, Matheson, Crabbe, O'Boyle, Stein. Subs: McCulloch, Nicol, Hampshire, Nanou, Miotto. Partick: Gow, McKinstry, Archibald, Craigan, Paterson, Connaghan, Dolan, Lennon, McLean, Hardie, Elliot. Subs: Britton, Smith, Howie, Brand, Arthur. Referee: K Toner (Scotland).
