Former Dundee double act James Grady and Eddie Annand combined to ensure that Ayr keep the pressure on league leaders Livingston.

The strikers grabbed a goal apiece to secure a hard-fought victory that plunges Raith Rovers deeper into relegation trouble.

Ayr stretched their unbeaten league run to 13 games.

The home side welcomed back John Hughes from a three-week injury lay-off, but the veteran defender had to make do with a place on the bench.

Gary Teale missed out through suspension.

Thought they had a penalty

Experienced defender Shaun Dennis failed a late late fitness test for Raith, while Salvador Kadine missed out through suspension.

Grady struck to put Ayr in the driving seat after 11 minutes, when he diverted Neil Scally's shot into the net off his right thigh.

The visitors thought they had won a penalty after 54 minutes when Andy Smith was brought down by Ayr goalkeeper Craig Nelson.

But the striker was instead booked for diving.

Ayr killed the game off six minutes from time when man of the match Lee Sharp crossed for Annand to head home his eighteenth goal of the season.
