Ayr United 3-0 Morton
Ayr stormed to the top of the Division One table thanks to two penalties from Eddie Annand and a second-half strike from Lee Sharp.

It was a comfortable win that leaves Morton looking increasingly certain to be relegated.

Defeat for long-time leaders Livingston away to Raith Rovers allowed Ayr to leapfrog the side who have long been favourites for the title.

Gary Teale was shown the red card late on, but in-form Annand had done the damage by then to take his tally to 17 goals for the season.

Craig McEwan came through a fitness test and fellow defender David Craig started for Ayr despite suffering flu.

Dusted himself down

Long-term casualties John Hughes and Marvyn Wilson were still out.

On-loan Kevin James was playing his last game for Morton before returning to Hearts, while Robbie Raeside partnered him in defence after recovering from injury.

Brian Kerr was on the bench for Morton after breaking two fingers in a training-ground accident.

After 21 minutes, former Clyde and Dundee striker Annand was fouled by Derek MacGregor and dusted himself down to fire home the spot-kick.

The second came on the stroke of half-time after Pat McGinlay was shoved by Davie Murie and Annand made no mistake once more.

Sharp rounded off the win with a fine 73rd-minute shot after Teale had been sent off for a foul on Morton's Derek Anderson.
