Morton 0-6 Ayr United
Five-goal Ayr striker Glynn Hurst carried out a personal demolition job on disconsolate Morton.

Home fans had come out in numbers to make sure the game went ahead.

And 3000 responded by boosting the coffers of the liquidation-threatened Greenock club.

But Hurst and James Grady made sure that rock-bottom Morton's misery deepened on the field of play.

Series of attacks

David Craig, Paul Lovering and Craig McEwan were are all ruled out through injury for Ayr.

But the Honest Men took only three minutes to open their account.

Hurst netted his first and by the interval the striker had added three more.

Despite a series of attacks by the visitors after the break, they could only find the net on two more occasions.

Grady netted a rebound after 64 minutes.

And Hurst grabbed his fifth to seal the win.

Off the goal-line

Morton fans enjoyed only a few good moments from their side.

Paul McDonald's header crashed against the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

And Harry Curran's header was cleared off the goal-line.

The same player also contrived to head the ball wide of the target when it looked easier to score late on.
