Morton sink Dumbarton 4-3 on penalties after stalemate

ALBA Challenge Cup

Morton progressed to the ALBA Challenge Cup second round at the expense of Dumbarton, winning 4-3 on penalties.

In normal and extra time, Dumbarton keeper Stephen Grindley won his duel with Morton's Stewart Kean, saving two of the striker's headers and a volley.

Grindley's opposite number, Colin Stewart, saved a Scott Chaplain drive and tipped over Paul Maxwell's header.

Goalless after extra-time, Morton won it when Ross Campbell's penalty hit the bar and Stewart saved from Ryan McStay.


Dumbarton: Grindley, Nugent, McManus, Gordon, McNiff, McStay, Geggan, Carcary (Cook 101), Chaplain (Maxwell 97), Wilson (Brannan 85), Campbell.
