Pars win in doubt over Woods row

Dunfermline defender Calum Woods
Woods replaced Greg Ross after 51 minutes at East End Park

Dunfermline's 7-1 Scottish Cup win over Stenhousemuir may not stand after the Pars fielded an ineligible player.

Calum Woods featured as a second-half substitute during the fourth-round tie at East End Park but the defender was due to be suspended for the game.

Dunfermline say they were unaware of any ban for the full-back.

Brechin were ejected from the Scottish Cup in 2008 after fielding two ineligible players in a victory over Hamilton Accies.

Following a 0-0 draw, Brechin edged out Hamilton 2-1 after extra-time but Accies noticed that Michael Paton, who was on loan from Aberdeen, should not have played at Glebe Park.

The Scottish FA ordered another replay and fined Brechin £10,000 but the Angus club later realised that recent signing Willie Dyer was also ineligible and should not have played.

This prompted Brechin's expulsion from the tournament.

Despite Dunfermline's plea of ignorance, BBC Scotland has seen the list of suspended players, which includes Woods, and understands the same document was sent to the Fife club.

Dunfermline will go into Sunday's fifth round draw because the SFA will not convene an emergency meeting to discuss the situation until Monday at the earliest.
