SFA mulls over cup final tickets

Falkirk's Scott Arfield celebrates his goal in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Dunfermline
The SFA wants to avoid empty seats in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden

The Scottish Football Association will meet Rangers and Falkirk next Tuesday to discuss the allocation of Scottish Cup final tickets.

SFA spokesman Rob Shorthouse told BBC Scotland: "We've got to be fair to both clubs taking part in the game.

"The aim of that is to ensure there are no empty seats in the stadium."

The governing body is keen to avoid a repeat of the poor semi-final attendances for the 30 May final at the 52,000 capacity Hampden Stadium.

Only 32,341 supporters watched Rangers beat St Mirren 3-0 in the first semi-final at Hampden, while 17,124 watched Falkirk's victory over Dunfermline 24 hours later.

"What we've done over the past five years is, rather than agree a final allocation, we identify areas of the stadium that could house both Rangers and Falkirk fans," explained the SFA spokesman.

"We release blocks of tickets. So there will be an initial allocation given to Rangers and Falkirk. Once they sell that they can come back and ask for more tickets.

"We've got to be fair to both clubs taking part in the game. If Falkirk are saying they could sell 20,000 tickets then that's something we'll have to work with them on.

"Rangers have got a huge support and I'm certain they will come to the meeting next week and say 20,000 tickets isn't enough for them either."

Shorthouse said Falkirk brought about 7,000 fans to the semi-final against the Pars.

"We will look at their average attendance and make an initial proposal to them which we think is fair," he added.

"We're looking at two clubs who are terribly excited about being in the final."
