By David Sharp

1650: Apologies for the lack of 'visuals'. I unwittingly found myself in the stickiest situation since Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun. Never again! I'm very grateful to you all for your patience and lively banter. Bye for now.

1648: "Re: 1624: It sound like the blowhard is actually an East Stirling fan, this is probably the most exciting day of his life!! Can we have an apology to all Dundee Utd fans please?" Simmy26 - One Eddie Thompson on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

I've no idea which team the chap in question was shouting colourful encouragement for; I couldn't see him! Please accept my humble apology if I got it wrong! The vociferous gentleman was having a rare old time! More wind to his substantial sails! Hurrah!

1647: Re 1456: Spookily, not only is the attendance close today (2,153), but the score is IDENTICAL to the match 50 years ago!!

1646: Mercifully Mr Tumilty toots his whistle and it's all over. United breeze into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup at the expense of brave East Stirlingshire.

1644: "Re 1624: Yeah because people aren't allowed to shout at football matches." shalalalalatheterror on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

Of course they're allowed to shout! I love people ranting and raving at football matches. It's part of the entertainment.

I'm just having a wee laugh about the Foghorn Leghorn United fan howling in Jim Duffy's ear on BBC Scotland's radio commentary! The guy makes Brian Blessed seem about as shy and retiring as Orvil the Duck. He sounds like he's riding on Mr Duffy's back!

1643: And Jon Daly brings out a good save from Newman. Good for the youngster to end on a positive note after a torrid debut.

1642: Daniel Swanson clips the outside of Jamie Newman's upright with a speculative effort from distance.

1640: "Re 1624: Heh! Fair enough, although might be interesting to see if a similar situation occurs in the next round, if Rangers manage to negotiate St. Johnstone for the right to play at Station or Mosset Park." zippy27 on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

We shall see, zippy me old china...

1638: Re 1624 - the blow-hard drowning out the commentary at Ochilview is more annoying than Cacofonix, the village bard in the Asterix comics, who always gets bound and gagged in his tree-hut at the celebration banquet at the end of each of Asterix & Obelix's adventures for his unbearable singing and spectacularly horrible lyre playing.

I love him! Remember Fulliautomatix, the village smith, always used to bang poor Cacofonix on the napper at the merest hint of him breaking into a song? Brilliant stuff!

1634: A flurry of late substitutions: United goalscorer Darren Dods leaves the field to be replaced by Daniel Grainger; Shire bring on Dean Richardson for Derek Ure.

1632: This game is being played at pedestrian pace now. United are letting the clock tick down.

1628: "Great to see Russell get on the scoresheet, and United going about today's game in a professional manner. Just wondering if it had been either Rangers or Celtic playing East Stirling today, a greater effort might have been made to send visuals for you today? Or is this just me being one of those paranoid East coasters again?" zippy27 on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

That's not necessarily true zippy27. The truth is that the match is not being shown live on TV. There is only a single camera at Ochilview for the purposes of tonight's highlights show (2220 GMT on BBC One Scotland). Therefore we don't get the match piped live into the building at Pacific Quay; the actual tape is ferried back here to be edited for this evening's Sportscene .

Yesterday's Celtic-Dundee game was covered in the same fashion, so we couldn't watch that game live either. I hope that eases your 'East coast paranoia'!

Incidentally, you're spot on: I gather from my wireless that United have gone about this afternoon's game in a thoroughly professional manner. Job's a good 'un, as they say.

1626: United have made a change with Daniel Swanson coming on for Craig Conway.

1624: "Could you ask big Jim (Duffy) to wallop that big idiot loudmouth United fan whose voice keeps drowning the (radio) commentary? Or take his photo for the website to let us see if he's as ugly as he sounds." Chris via email

Ha ha! You've cheered me up with that one Chris. I can hear the loud-mouthed balloon bellowing all over the commentary too. He needs gagged and thrown in a cupboard.

1622: Shire boss McInally shuffles his pack: Mark McKenzie enters the fray as a replacement for Colin Cramb.

1618: It's turned into a drubbing for sorry Shire. They've never beaten United in the Scottish Cup and they're not going to break that particular duck this afternoon.

1616: Half-chance for Dunn but Dillon nicks the ball away from the Shire man's toe as he shapes to shoot.

1614: Goal! East Stirlingshire 0-4 Dundee United
Young Johnny Russell steps up and squeezes the ball past Newman. The keeper guesses the right way and gets a palm to the ball but sadly can't keep it out. That was unlucky.

1612: Penalty to Dundee United! Craig Tully brings down Johnny Russell in full flow and referee Michael Tumilty points to the spot.

1606-1611: A black hole has strangely appeared in the commentary. Quite literally NOTHING is happening in this game. Or at least hee-haw of any note that I can garner from the radio coverage. I'm not waving but drowning here...

1604: A slow start to the second half. Or so Scott Davie says on the radio. Will United settle for this result of push for more goals?

1602: And we're off again!

1600: A furious McInally was letting off steam in the paper today regarding the so-called 'Largs Mafia.' The apoplectic Shire boss has accused the Scottish FA of favouring big-name coaches and branded the Largs courses a waste of time.

McInally has said he won't sit his badges despite Hampden big-wigs pressurising his club, insisting he must enrol for a "B" Licence to work at Shire.

Controversial stuff. Anyone know any good stories about the Cosa Nostra of the Ayrshire coast? Who is Largs' Tony Soprano?Join the debate on My Sport

1558: "Sharpy - in reference to your description of Buabens goal: I never liked the term daisy-cutter. How about mole-scuffer or worm-murderer? Happy new year! Fergus via email

Is that your good self Fergus 'King of the' Hill? I much prefer your descriptions. Happy new year to you too!

1557: I've just polished off a can of Coke and demolished a Snickers bar in record time. Hungry work this blind commentary malarkey...

1555: What can Jim McInally possibly say in his half-time team talk to lift the spirits of his despondent Shire players? I'm afraid the second half could be a damage limitation exercise. And I'm feeling really sorry for yon wee goalie Newman.

1552: "Professional first half. Just need Russell to score, and Craig Levein's three changes will have all scored. Keep it going lads." alanthearab on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

1549: Half-time: East Stirlingshire 0-3 Dundee United. The men in tangerine are strutting down easy street.

1547: "Hamilton next round away - not an easy game for the Arabs - would be good to see Goodwillie on for Daly now and get the two young boys playing together." calvin_robin on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

You're darn tooting Calvin! Accies away will be a tricky tie to negotiate. But I think rampant United will be big favourites to progress to the quarter-finals. Anyway, enough chat about the future, let's show some respect to Shire fans. This game still has another 45 minutes to go.

1545: Daly's ninth goal of the season has knocked the stuffing out of Jim McInally's unfortunate side. Craig Levein's side will surely now travel to Hamilton to take on Billy Reid's whippersnappers in the fifth round.

1543: Goal! East Stirlingshire 0-3 Dundee United
Sean Dillon sends a teasing cross into the Shire box and this time Jon Daly dispatches a simple header past Newman.

1541: United have snapped out of their trance. Shame for the baby-faced keeper there; he was dwarfed by the hulking Dods. Man against boy.

1540: Goal! East Stirlingshire 0-2 Dundee United
The SPL big guns ease themselves into a two-goal lead after Darren Dods leaps unchallenged to head the ball past the hapless Newman.

1535: The Shire have come roaring back into this game. United have switched off after Buaben's goal. Perhaps they think they can take their foot off the gas and hit cruise control? Craig Levein will have something to say about that at half-time.

1533: "Good to see our money going to good use, did the BBC buy you a radio to listen on or did you have to buy your own? Can't believe your not actually watching the game!!!" dufcdode on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

No, neither can I! By the way, I felt it was better to fess up than dupe you into thinking I could see the game. I would still very much appreciate all your informed input as I fumble my way blindly through this commentary.

1531: Brian Graham, unmarked at the United back post, rises to meet Dunn's in-swinging corner but nods it into the side netting when it would have been wiser to direct it back across goal. Easy for me to say! I can't even see what he's doing!

1529: Some info on Johnny Russell: he progressed through the youth ranks at Tannadice, made his United first team debut as a substitute in the defeat at Falkirk in May 2007 and has recently returned from a loan spell at Forfar.

1527: "I reckon 4-0 with a brace from the youngster... C'MON UNITED!!" cmarab on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

Young Johnny Russell hasn't been mentioned much in the commentary so far...perhaps he will find his feet (quite literally on the treacherous surface!) as the game progresses? Do United fans have high hopes for the 18-year-old striker?

1526: Some words of caution from Davy in Aberdeenshire about the Dons' fifth round tie against East Fife. "Take nothing for granted. Remember Stenny and QOS," he warns via text. Quite.

1525: United are apparently exuding their superior class in the opening exchanges.

1523: Wey-hey! Some comedy from Jim in Glasgow via text. He asks: "Is the East Stirlingshire keeper a relative of Trialist?" The keeper is called Newman, by the way. Is he a distant relation to Jerry's nemesis Newman from Seinfeld?

1520: "Just hearing the PA system there makes the Cup for me. It's like Glasgow Central in the 70s!"
Robert in East Kilbride by text on 80295

Brilliant! It does sound like a retro cup tie at Ochilview.

1517: And Newman's first task is to pick the ball out of the back of the net. Apparently his wrist bent like a pinball flipper as he attempted to keep out (The Artist Formerly Known As) Prince Buaben's sizzling strike. I guess we can't be too harsh on the wee man since it's his first game for the Shire.

1516: Goal! East Stirlingshire 0-1 Dundee United
Neat interplay from Gomes and Daly and Prince Buaben's daisy-cutter gives United an early lead.

1513: Fresh-faced 17-year-old Jamie Newman makes his debut between the sticks for East Stirlingshire.

1510: Not much to report in terms of goalmouth action but the home side are certainly holding their own in front of a healthy crowd of around 2,500.

1508: David Dunn is playing with a broken wrist for East Stirlingshire. What a trooper!

1506: Vibrant start from the home side with the ball fizzing around on the slick plastic surface. Well, I'm imagining it is since I can't actually see the game.

A tad farcical I know but I'm relying entirely on BBC Radio Scotland commentary for information on what's happening at Ochilview this afternoon. So, bear with me and be gentle with your comments. I've been somewhat stuck in the proverbial here...

1504: "Good to see Levein giving the young lad a chance. Hope he can bag a few. C'mon the Arabs!" JamieMcGDUFC on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

1503: Here are those teams in full:

East Stirlingshire: Newman, Hay, Bolochoweckyj, Forrest, Dunn, Graham, Donaldson, Tully, Rodgers, Cramb, Ure. Subs: Richardson, Kelly, McKenzie, Anderson, King.

Dundee Utd: Zaluska, Dillon, Dods, Kenneth, Dixon, Gomis, Flood, Buaben, Conway, Daly, Johnathen Russell. Subs: McGovern, Grainger, David Robertson, Swanson, Goodwillie.

1500: And we're off!

1456: The only other occasion these two clubs have met in Scotland's premier knock-out tourney was way back in season 1958/59 - almost exactly 50 years ago to the day in fact - when it took United two replays to shake off a stubborn Shire side and progress to the third round.

United finally triumphed 4-0 on 11 February 1959 after two drawn games, in front of a crowd of 2,480 at Tannadice, which is probably uncannily close to the attendance at Ochilview today!

1453: East Stirlingshire gaffer Jim McInally spent more than 10 years at Tannadice as a player. This is the first time he's encountered his old club as a manager. Can his side pull off a huge cup upset? Let me know what's on your mind: Join the debate on My Sport

1450: Not a second to waste, here is the team news:

Dundee United boss Craig Levein hands teenage striker Johnny Russell his first start for the club. The 18-year-old scored twice against East Stirlingshire earlier in the season during a loan spell with Forfar.

Levein also brings in Darren Dods and Prince Buaben as Lee Wilkie, Scott Robertson and Danny Swanson are rested.

1448: Both the inclement weather and the plastic pitch could be a leveller in this David and Goliath battle between United's SPL fancy-dans and the third division minnows.

1446: Thanks Colin. No time to catch our breaths as we plunge headlong into this afternoon's intriguing Scottish Cup clash at a wild and windy Ochilview.

By Colin Moffat

1445: Righto, that's enough from me. David Sharp will be along shortly to take you through the remaining match between East Stirlingshire and Dundee United.

1438: "It was a good performance and the team showed it's best face." Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo tells BBC Radio Scotland, before referring to Hibs' 'aggressivity'. To be fair, I'm sure his Hungarian, Romanian and German are a lot better than mine.

1435: "We're undefeated in the cup," new Brechin boss Jim Duffy tells BBC Radio Scotland. "I'm sure Peterhead, Queen's Park and East Fife will be excited by the draw."

1430: Scottish Cup fifth round draw:

Forfar Athletic or Forres Mechanics v St Johnstone or Rangers
Airdrie Utd v Dunfermline
Hearts v Falkirk
Inverurie Locos or Motherwell v Brechin or St Mirren
Aberdeen v East Fife
Celtic v Peterhead or Queen's Park
Hamilton Accies v E Stirlingshire or Dundee Utd
Inverness CT v Ayr Utd or Kilmarnock

Not too many potential thrillers on the cards there. Are you happy with your team's draw? Join the debate on My Sport

1425: "It was never a sending off and it totally changed the game. Fletcher didn't even catch him but Berra goes up like a brown trout." Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen talking to BBC Radio Scotland.

1420: "Hearts put in a real team effort, doubling up on opponents and really putting in a shift for each other, while Hibs played like a bunch of individuals." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Murdo MacLeod.

1417: I'll bring you news of the fifth round draw which follows shortly...

1412: Full-time: Hibernian 0-2 Hearts

Jambos boss Csaba Laszlo celebrates his first Edinburgh derby win, after two league draws this season, as Hearts progress to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

1409: GOAL! Hibernian 0-2 Hearts
John Rankin surrenders possession in midfield and Christos Karapidis slides a pass through for Gary Glen to nip in ahead of Szamotulski and roll the ball into an empty net. Game over.

1406: Hibs skipper Rob Jones ventures up the pitch to add his considerable height to the attack in the closing stages. However, Hearts still pose more menace in front of goal.

1405: Five minutes of added time are signalled by the fourth official.

1403: Andrew Driver squirms his way past a few challenges in the penalty box and his shot is beaten away by Szamotulski.

1401: Nish and O'Brien have made little impact up front for Hibs as a scrappy game deteriorates further. Hearts are comfortable at the back and stronger in midfield.

1359: Gary Glen is on for Hearts, with David Obua going off. The young forward's pace could be a problem for a tiring Hibs side.

1355: "What sort of crowd has turned up? I'm at work in the big smoke and the conditions are, shall we say, dreich!!!" asks choptastic on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

The official attendance has not been released but there are a number of empty seats. I'd guess around 15,500.

1351: John Rankin is booked for a high tackle and Rob Jones stupidly shoves Cesnauskis to the floor. Hibs have not been very disciplined.

1349: Christian Nade directs a header on target but Szamotulski makes the diving save look easy.

1348: "This is a cup tie now. The Hibs fans are roaring their side on." BBC Radio Scotland commentator David Begg.

It's just as well Beggy is around to keep us informed.

1347: "Riordan showing his true colours again, gesturing to the Hearts fans, don't think that will be the end of that." jambo74 on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

1344: The ball pings around inside the Hearts penalty box but won't fall for a home player. Hibs haven't had a clear sight of goal since Fletcher's dismissal.

1342: Hibs use up their two remaining substitutes. Colin Nish and Alan O'Brien come on, while Derek Riordan and Jonatan Johansson trudge off.

Riordan picks up a yellow card on his way off for a gesture aimed at the crowd.

1340: Hearts win another dubious throw-in. I think the stand-side linesman is trying to wind-up Mixu Paatelainen. He's a brave man.

1337: "Christian Nade is struggling and seems to have a problem with his collarbone." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Allan Preston shows off his knowledge of human anatomy.

1335: Lewis Stevenson is booked for a challenge from behind on Ruben Palazuelos. He got a nibble of the ball but definitely went through the Hearts midfielder.

1334: Sol Bamba tries his luck from distance but the big Hibs midfielder's shot flies harmlessly wide.

1333: Hearts are enjoying some long spells of possession - 75%, according to the early second half stats.

1329: Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen blows his top after a throw-in goes the way of Hearts. I'm no lip reader and my Finnish isn't up to scratch, but he appeared to be using some colourful language!

1326: Hibs are on the ropes as Hearts look to finish off their depleted opponents.

1324: Welcome to Hibs Mr Szamotulski. David van Zanten pokes a terrible back-pass in the new keeper's direction but the Pole manages to stick out a leg and prevent an own goal.

1322: The second half is underway. Hibs are playing in the direction that used to be down the slope in the old days at Easter Road.

1320: "Csaba Laszlo has to put Hibs to the sword today. Hearts must be positive and go for the second goal. If it stays 1-0 then it could be a nervy finish. Hibs could nick one and Hearts would be devastated to be taken to a replay." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Murdo MacLeod.

1318: It's been confirmed that Yves Ma-Kalambay won't be appearing for the second half.Former Dundee United favourite Grzegorz Szamotulski will be taking over in between the sticks for his Hibs debut.

1315: "You go on your gut reaction and that's what the referee has to go with and I thought it was a red card." BBC Radio Scotland's Richard Gordon.

The game's all about opinions, eh?

1314: "Fletcher's foot clamped Berra's foot and followed through and buckled Berra's knee. Shocking tackle. Give the ref credit and praise him for once!" Billy Gruff, Fort William via text.

1313: "I just want to see a good game. That was never a red card for Fletcher and Hearts players are diving all over the place. Surely that's a worse crime." Graeme in Irvine via text.

1310: "Just seen it (Fletcher's challenge) and his studs weren't even up. Late, yes. Booking, yes. Red, no. Was harsh."kiki1875 on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

1305: Half time: Hibernian 0-1 Hearts

The Hearts fans are in fine voice at the home of their fierce rivals. It looks like a long way back for 10-man Hibs, who had started well. It's been 107 years since Hibs last won the Scottish Cup. The long wait could well be extended.

1302: Hibs goalkeeper appears to be struggling with a hamstring injury. The giant Belgian winces with pain following a kick out. We could see a debut for recent signing Grzegorz Szamotulski in the second half.

1259: Ian Murray makes a vital interception as Nade breaks through the Hibs defence. The goal-scorer should have passed to Driver, who was wide open.

1256: GOAL! Hibernian 0-1 Hearts
A loose ball breaks to Andrew Driver and, with Yves Ma-Kalambay going walkabout, the winger crosses for Christian Nade to knock the ball into an unguarded net from close range.

1254: It's turning a little nasty, with frustrated Hibs pair Riordan and Johansson both guilty of bad tackles. However, both escape without a booking.

1253: Hibs will have to alter their shape now but Derek Riordan is surely too weedy to operate as a lone striker. Maybe we'll see big Colin Nish soon.

1250: "It was a bit of a reckless challenge. Fletcher went in with two feet so it's dangerous play. It probably was a red card." BBC Radio Scotland reporter Chick Young.

1248: RED CARD: Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher is sent off for a late block on Christophe Berra.

That's a huge blow for Hibs. It was what they call 'a forward's challenge' and he caught the Hearts skipper flush on the foot with his studs. Ouch!

1243: Hearts skipper Christophe Berra picks up the first yellow card of the game for a crude challenge on Steven Fletcher.

1241: "HMFC have shaded both derbys this season for me, but have missed a killer touch." theA_Ateam over on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

Nade is the lone striker for the visitors again but the former Sheffield United man has struggled in front of goal all season.

1239: Hibs break at pace but Lewis Stevenson doesn't have the legs to evade his marker and a promising situation fizzles out...

1238: "This game has got to be better then last weeks derby!" sayskevmfc on My SportJoin the debate on My Sport

Well, it's pretty frantic stuff at the moment, with no player really stamping any authority on proceedings.

1235: Hibs full-back David van Zanten (he should be a great player with a name like that) makes a good recovery tackle to prevent Andrew Driver steaming in on goal.

1233: A scare for Hearts as Marius Zaliukas swipes at fresh air but the ball skids through to the arms of Balogh, with Hibs forward Derek Riordan sniffing around.

1231: "It's beginning to heat up now. Hearts have come right back into this game after a slow start." BBC Radio Scotland pundit Allan Preston

1229: Great chance for Hibs. Sol Bamba releases Steven Fletcher but the striker dithers somewhat and keeper Janos Balogh gets fingertips to the ball, diving at Fletcher's feet.

1228: Andrew Driver gets a sight at goal but his weak shot is easily gathered by Hibs keeper Yves Ma-Kalambay.

1226: Hearts threaten for the first time, with Cesnauskis getting in behind the home defence but the Lithuanian's chipped cross evades Christian Nade at the back post.

1224: Lee Wallace is sent sprawling by a late lunge from Sol Bamba. I suspect that will be the first of many meaty challenges.

1220: "I've just heard Allan Preston's commentating. that'll be a Hearts win then cos he's a jinx to the Hibees."Mark Anderson via text. Join the debate on My Sport Mr Preston makes no secret of his Jambo leanings but he's not had much to shout about in a scrappy opening.

1218: And we're off, a wee bit late.

1214: New Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies is in the rather sparse crowd. Who is he checking out? Hearts defender Eggert Jonsson, reckons BBC Radio Scotland summariser Allan Preston.

1213: "I'm not confident with the team selection, hope I'm proved wrong." jambo74 is feeling a little nervous over on My Sport. Join the debate on My Sport

1210: "We are going to approach this match in a very positive manner and the players are fully focused," Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen, who has been in charge for a year now, talking to BBC Radio Scotland.

1205: Remember the draw for the fifth round of the tournament will be made at Easter Road after the match. Hibs legend Pat Stanton will be drawing the balls out of the hat, along with Scottish FA President George Peat and Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill.

1200: SimpreZola is first up on My Sport: "Hibs to win 1-0 I feel." is the simple message. What do the rest of you think? Join the debate on My Sport

1157: TEAM NEWS

Hibernian: Ma-Kalambay, van Zanten, Hogg, Jones, Murray, Johansson, Bamba, Rankin, Stevenson, Fletcher, Riordan. Subs: Szamotulski, Yantorno, Nish, O'Brien, Chisholm.

Hearts: Balogh, Jonsson, Zaliukas, Berra, Lee Wallace, Karapidis, Cesnauskis, Obua, Palazuelos, Driver, Nade. Subs: Kello, Thomson, Stewart, Templeton, Glen.

Hearts defenders Marius Zaliukas and Lee Wallace return from suspension, while Deividas Cesnauskis and David Obua come in for Laryea Kingston and Michael Stewart in midfield.

1152: Early team news for the home side. Captain Rob Jones is fit again and John Rankin is added to the midfield. Steven Thicot and Alan O'Brien are the men dropping out.

1150: The weather has been wet and wild this weekend, so expect another affair packed with blood and thunder and lots of of those dramatic, aquaplaning slide tackles.

1147: For the sake of their long-suffering fans we can only hope that there is some truth to the cliché that "the form book goes out the window" in derby matches!

1146: Hibs haven't scored a goal from open play in their last three matches while the stats are even grimmer across the city: Hearts have not hit the back of the net for almost a month with the goal-drought hitting the seven-hour mark in the 1-0 loss to Motherwell in midweek.

1145: Good morning all! Aaaaaah the magic of the cup! Welcome to the running commentary for today's fourth round Scottish Cup ties.

First up is the Edinburgh derby. Hibs entertain old foes Hearts in the early kick-off. Following last weekend's 0-0 stalemate in the league we'll be hoping for some goals at Easter Road. After the dust has settled in the capital, we'll have the full draw for the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Finally East Stirlingshire welcome Dundee United to Ochilview.

Stay with us all the way and send in your comments via: My Sport and text on 80295.
