McCoist says draw a fair result
Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist
McCoist says Rangers are happy to take the fifth round replay to Ibrox
Ally McCoist says a draw was a fair result after Rangers' Scottish Cup tie against Hibernian ended goalless.

The Rangers assistant manager also praised both sides for providing spectators with a thrilling match.

"I thought it was a great cup tie. It had everything, and I don't think Hibs or ourselves deserved to go out today." he said.

"We're still in the cup, we've kept a clean sheet, and we've got a home tie so, in all, we're fairly pleased."

Rangers went into the match in a rich vein of form, having added a CIS Cup final date to their four-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League.

However, McCoist says he knew Hibernian would prove a tough test at Easter Road.

"When you come to a place like this they always make it very hard for you," he said.

"I thought we started the game well and dominated for the first 35 minutes, and then Hibs came back into the game in the second half."

Barry Ferguson, Lee McCulloch and Charlie Adam all came close for the Ibrox club, although Yves Ma-Kalamby in the Hibs goal kept them at bay.

"There were plenty of chances for both sides to put the game beyond doubt, but it wasn't to be today," McCoist added.

Rangers keeper Alan McGregor also played a major part in the match, denying Steven Fletcher, John Rankin and Merouane Zemmama.

However, he was shown a red card in the final minutes for bringing down Hibs striker Dean Shiels outside the penalty area.

"I thought McGregor was terrific today. He kept us in the game with a couple of great saves as well," said McCoist.

"At the sending-off I felt he was probably let down by his defence to be honest, but if he hasn't touched the ball then he deserves his red card.

Following McGregor's dismissal Rangers boss Walter Smith wanted to shuffle his pack, but there was some confusion at the resulting substitution.

Brahim Hemdani was withdrawn after his squad number '7' was written on the paperwork, when in fact Chris Burke's number '17' was the number intended.

"The substitution seemed to get lost in translation," joked McCoist.

"I'm not blaming anybody, it was just one of these things that thankfully didn't matter too much."
