Falkirk eased their way into the third round of the CIS Cup with a more comfortable victory over Montrose than the scoreline suggests.
The SPL side opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when Michael Higdon headed home a cross from Pedro Moutinho.
Falkirk made it 2-0 on the hour mark when Steven Thomson burst into the box and drilled the ball home.
But the Third Division underdogs got a goal back in the 84th minute, when Garry Wood drilled the ball home.
Falkirk had taken control early on, threatening after 14 minutes when goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie flapped at a cross but recovered well to save from Scott Arfield.
But, after striker Higdon opened the scoring, Falkirk looked for more and Darren Barr headed over from an Arfield corner.
Patrick Cregg set up Dean Holden and home goalkeeper McKenzie made a fine save.
Falkirk remained in command and a Moutinho drive flew just wide from 25 yards.
Right on half-time, the same player's chip just cleared the crossbar.
Falkirk continued to dominate after the interval and Arfield headed wide from a Holden corner before Thomson made it 2-0.
McKenzie was keeping the score down and saved an Arfield shot following a Higdon knockdown.
Then, two minutes later, the young keeper again made a fine save, this time from Cregg.
Montrose made a late rally and Wood headed wide from a corner, before Paul Stewart had a shot blocked and they finally got their consolation goal.
