Falkirk strolled into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a goal in each half at Shielfield.

Bairns forward Alan Gow opened the scoring with a wonderful strike from long range after leaving a trail of defenders in his wake.

Gow then headed against the crossbar and was denied from close range by a great save from Chris Flockhart.

Liam Craig shot home after the interval as the visitors continued to dominate against the Third Division side.

In the fifth minute, Patrick Cregg and Gow worked a neat one-two on the edge of the penalty area but Flockhart blocked the Irish midfielder's shot with his legs.

The opening goal arrived just three minutes later when in-demand Gow executed a stunning finish.

The forward, being courted by Wolves, Hibernian and Aberdeen, held off three challenges before curling a glorious 22-yard shot into the top corner.

Gow almost grabbed a second after 28 minutes when he nodded Kenny Milne's tempting left-wing cross against the bar.

And Gow was again denied by a brilliant point-black save from Flockhart after 36 minutes.

Russell Latapy, who had been mostly quiet, saw a weak shot saved by Flockhart as the first half closed with Falkirk on top.

Berwick passed up an excellent chance to level just three minutes into the second period.

Kevin Haynes burst down the right and evaded two challenges before striking a poor shot into Jeroen Lambers' arms.

It was a miss which was to prove costly when Craig doubled Falkirk's lead in the 53rd minute.

Darren Barr's cross from the right was flicked on by Ross and Craig swept the ball home at the back post.

Berwick refused to throw in the towel Steven Noble fired a shot over when he should have hit the gaping target.

Latapy then fired wide with a left-footed snap-shot as the visitors continued to look sharp on the break.

Substitute Steven Thomson was denied by Flockhart's legs as Falkirk kept possession well against a Berwick side that battled hard until the final whistle.
