St Johnstone put on a magnificent show to topple Dundee United out of the CIS Insurance Cup.
Jason Scotland was on target for St Johnstone
Former United striker Jason Scotland raced clear to fire the First Division side ahead after 40 minutes.
And a slip from the visiting defence allowed Steven Milne to break forward and send a great lob over goalkeeper Derek Stillie.
Ten minutes from time, Simon Mensing wrapped up a great night for the Saints with a fantastic header.
United's Craig Conway came close to open the scoring for United in the sixth minute when Noel Hunt picked him out with a looping cross to the back post, but the tight angle saw the ex-Ayr man nod into the side-netting.
Two minutes later, Saints had a superb chance when Paul Sheerin's corner was met by Simon Mensing's acrobatic overhead kick.
With a goal looking certain, Christian Kalvenes rose with a great header to clear.
Scotland looked certain to score in the 31st minute as he broke free of Garry Kenneth in the box, but Derek Stillie managed to claw away the Trinidadian's lob.
United player-boss Craig Brewster could have done better in the 27th minute as the ball landed at his feet from Conway's cutback, but the veteran blazed his shot high over the bar from 18 yards.
Scotland broke the deadlock five minutes from half-time when he raced on to Sheerin's lofted pass and superbly threaded the ball past Stillie.
Saints picked up where they left off after the break, with Milne and Scotland combining to create another great chance.
With the ball virtually on the penalty spot, Milne delayed on pulling the trigger, but Scotland pounced once again, forcing another fine save from Stillie.
But, when Kenneth was short with headed back-pass, Milne lifted a perfect lob over the keeper's head to double the lead.
Brewster was gifted a golden chance by another wayward header, but the his snap-shot flew inches past Bryn Halliwell's post.
United substitute Collin Samuel reminded Saints the game was still alive with a rasping drive which Halliwell did well to parry.
But Saints had an instant reply with a wonderful third goal.
Darren Sheridan's clever free-kick found Scotland free on the edge of the box, holding the ball up long enough to free Sheerin wide on the left.
His cross landed perfectly for Mensing to power a textbook header past the helpless Stillie.
