Wales youngsters face tough group

Wales have been drawn in the same group as the Czech Republic, Armenia, Andorra and Montenegro for the 2013 Uefa under-21 qualifiers.

Brian Flynn's side agonisingly missed out on the play-offs for this year's tournament after losing to Italy in their final group game last September.

"It is a very tough group, but I am sure that we can stand a good chance of qualifying," said Flynn.

'I am pleased that we did not have a six team group."

Wales, who missed out on hosting the 2013 tournament to Israel, led their group in the last qualifying campaign until the final game where Italy pipped them to top spot with a 1-0 win.

The placings were determined by results and away goals between the two sides, Wales having won the reverse fixture last year 2-1.

But Flynn is determined to go one better when this Group Three campaign kicks off from March.

"Always an exciting time," he added. "We now need to show that the next generation of Wales players can go that extra step to a finals."

Wales U21s face Northern Ireland in a friendly at Wrexham's Racecourse on Wednesday, 9 February.
