Neville Powell celebrates Bangor City league record

Neville Powell has won three Welsh Cups in three years as Bangor boss

Neville Powell hailed his Bangor City heroes as the north Walians set a Welsh Premier record of 11 wins at the start of the season with victory at Neath.

The Citizens fought back from a goal down to beat high-flying Neath 2-1 at The Gnoll as Les Davies and Jamie Reed struck late on to rewrite history.

"We've only got a mediocre budget but the players work hard for every result and deserve the plaudits," said Powell.

"We don't know when they're beat and are punching above our weight."

Manager Powell has inspired Bangor to three successive Welsh Cups and earlier this season guided the Farrar Road side to a Europa Cup glamour tie against Portuguese side Maritimo.

Bangor's two-legged victory over Finnish side FC Honka was the first time they had won a European tie for 25 years and that run helped inspire the club to 11 successive league wins.

But the leaders were unable to celebrate their feat as Powell admits: "The only one poor point is that we came down in cars because we stayed overnight.

"We couldn't afford a team bus so we had to come down in four players' cars."
